A little bit science fiction, a little bit horror, a whole good time.
I've been struggling to sum up my feelings about this book. I liked it, don't get me wrong, but I still have so many questions! But the twist ending was set up very nicely 👌 and seeing this listed as "book 1" on good reads leaves me with hope that it will lead somewhere and get my questions answered.
The writing is simple and clear, and there isn't a lot of filler. The story is intriguing and fast paced. The characters, both good and bad, are interesting. However because there isn't a lot of filler you're not really emotionally invested in any of the characters or their motivations.
I feel like there are so many pieces of inspiration in here as well. Nods to Jaws and Deep Blue Sea, and some Midnight Mass vibes in there too.
Cecaelia was a very good end of summer read and I enjoyed my time with this story.
Thank you Harrogate Lane Books, Netgalley, and E. A. Hoffman for the opportunity to read and review this book ❤️

Book Review:
🕷 Spidralien 🕷
by E.A. Hoffman

Honestly, I wasn’t really sure what to expect when I started this one. At first I was like, “Okay, where is this even going?” But once I got into it, I actually started getting pretty invested. The story has this weird mix of creepy, interesting, and just straight-up strange moments that kept me wanting to see what happened next.

One thing I really liked was how the book made me feel like I was actually there. Some parts had me sitting there thinking, “Nah Brah, there’s no way that just happened.” (as my 8 year old has taught me to say) I also liked the characters because they didn’t feel completely perfect or fake. They made dumb choices sometimes, which honestly made them feel more real to me.

There were definitely parts where I was a little confused, and I had to go back and think about what was happening. But weirdly, that was part of what made the book interesting. It wasn’t just predictable the whole time, and I like books that make me actually think instead of just telling me everything.

Overall, I’d say 🕷Spidralien🕷 was a pretty cool read. It’s definitely different, and it’s the kind of book that sticks in your head after you finish it. I wouldn’t say it was perfect, but I enjoyed it way more than I expected to. Some parts had me hooked, some parts had me like “what the heck,” but either way, I wasn’t bored. Kept me on my toes!

Two posts in one day? Who is she??

Hahahahaha this was so freaking great! Best ending I’ve read in a very long time.

@e.a.hoffmann writes in a way that is super accessible, but the twists and turns are so sophisticated and unpredictable, it’s always a good time.

This novella is so short I was wondering how much could be packed into it, and the answer is A LOT. And all of it is entertaining. As a late diagnosed AuDHD peep (though I’m definitely not a republican) with OCD, parent trauma and a penchant for shopping I thought Hoffmann nailed the character of Donna on the head, right down to the masks, the stubbornness and the inner monologue that never shuts up.

Add spidraliens and you’ve got a bloody good time!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Also, all my resident house spider have retired for the night, so here are some spider plant babies.

I read so many great books this month! I absolutely love reading a wide range of romance. Between ARC reads, book club picks, and a handful of novellas, there were so many that stood out.

I also had some amazing buddy reads! Some of my favorites were Daggermouth and Insatiable.

My absolute favorite read of the month was Crown Me Yours. I was WRECKED! I literally cried through the last few chapters! Second to that, though, was She’s a Doll. The writing in both was top tier!

Another wonderfully fast-paced and captivating horror novella from E.A. Hoffmann! Donna and Greg are perfectly relatable characters in so much as they both get wrapped up in their thoughts, despite their way of thinking being entirely different. I really appreciated Greg's take and his course of action. I won't give anything away since this is a short book, suffice to say it was worth the read!
Thank-you, Harrogate Lane Books and @e.a.hoffmann , for this complimentary copy. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own. #Spidralien #netgalley #HarrogateLanebooks

Cecaelia

By E.A Hoffmann

Pages 301

Knives 🔪 🔪 🔪 🔪 🔪

People are disappearing. Body parts are appearing on the beach. The town’s people are in denial it's a shark. They are going to wish it was the case. There is a revengeful creature lurking underneath the surface. Better listen to the sheriff's warning or you could be next.

This book was fast paced with “Deep Blue Sea” vibes. I highly recommend this book. It has tons to offer. From romance, action, revenge, carnage, and a few surprises. I don't want to spoil it.

Cecaelia by E.A.Hoffmann

Tea Consumption Scale: 🍵🍵🍵🍵 4 Cups - "Unexpected Biscuit Emergency"
Needed a second pot.
Stayed up later than intended.
Strong urge to discuss characters with anyone available.

The book is a small-town horror, Creature-Feature romp that follows the Sheriff, Morgan, and a number of the locals as they navigate Tourism, Summer, romance, and Dead Bodies.

From the first chapter, I was fully locked in. Immediately saw the parallels to classics like Jaws, which is an all-time favourite, with an excellent modern twist on the development. The characters are perfectly regular humans who are both likeable and unlikeable throughout, and there are plenty of questionable life choices to yell about into the pages.

Everyone has secrets.

Nobody communicates effectively, and with the aforementioned questionable life choices made by just about everyone, it lends itself to excellent nail-biting DRAMA.

Act 3 had my head spinning; I did not foresee the major twist and shift in direction at all and can only hope there is a follow-up coming, because I actually want to see what could happen next!

Perfect for readers who love:
• Creature Feature Horror
• Characters with trust issues.
• Sea Vibes
• Yelling at your book when characters make questionable decisions.

Final verdict:
A fantastic summer beach read with a sense of absurd fun and great pace.

Thank you to E.A.Hoffmann & Harrow Gate Lane Books over on Netgalley for the ARC. All thoughts are my own. #arcreader #arcreview #bookreviewer

Taking a quick break from ARCs to get into this, I've been dying to read this for a while too. So far so good I've been thoroughly unsettled and disquieted already and I'm loving it.
