One year of community, connection and local impact!

DSLBD was proud to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the Marion Barry Avenue Market & Café alongside Dreaming Out Loud and the Ward 8 community.

Over the past year, the market has created a space for local farmers, food makers, entrepreneurs and neighbors to come together and thrive. Congratulations to Dreaming Out Loud and all of the partners who helped bring this vision to life and continue investing in DC’s local economy.

Here’s to many more years of growth and success! #smallbizdc

Plate 3 of The Plant-Based Potluck Meal Prep [PPMP]

RSVP with link in bio 🔗

Our Featured chefs will be
LaTear of @tasteofkingiyanu +
Chef Anisa of @nanas.rooted

We will be announcing the dishes they will be demoing soon 🥘🥗

The Plant-Based Potluck Meal Prep is a community driven gathering where plant-based eaters come together to prepare, share, and celebrate nourishing food. Each participant brings one large plant-based dish to share at the event and to-go containers are provided so everyone can take home meals for the week. The event creates space for meaningful dialogue around food justice, food, access, and community stewardship whether you cook a dish or simply contribute ingredients. Participants are also invited to share the recipe and cultural stories behind their dishes, which will be compiled into a virtual community recipe book after the event.

This is a great opportunity to connect with the plant-based community, chefs who offer their services, local farms, and get inspiration if you are looking for new ways to eat healthier.

Come share space and bring an open mind/belly 🍲 🌱

@earth2melonnation will be providing

On this journey an elder once told me…”You are the medicine” and to be able to have medicines crafted my abuelo’s land be sought after where ever we go is a beautiful feeling. We are stomp kicking through the doors of imposter syndrome as every step we take our DNA is remembering, our tribe is finding each other where not even borders can falter.

@earth2melonnation the tribe of @da_natureguy369 and @indicuttt every time I see them the creator smiles and the enemy shivers. Two sides of the same coin seeing how the work we do for our community is mirroring each other on each side of the puddle. Seeing them in DC was a hug for the soul. I pulled up to deliver SeaMoss and gift medicines and. They pulled me into a tour to talk about our project to the elders they were serving that day. Check their projects out.

@sopofthesoul sheeshhhhh another brother that we spoke life into each other and to see how those from the mud continue to build up instead of get dragged back down. Taking the medicine of soursop and teaching and healing the Philly community one delicious smoothie at a time.

@sanasanamarket Jazz is a soul sister and thank you to Mike for telling her she had to meet me years back. The queen moved heaven and earth to have a market that aligned while we were there to participate and she gave an opportunity to many vendors to connect expand their community.

@brosis512 : I met Ana through other comrades on our farm and she saw something special in our project. She pushed for us to talk to some of the farms in her coalition of @nyclandbasedhealingproject. We chose Nando and Brosis and we were inspired and blown away not knowing how big of a deal being invited was. We thought we were speaking at a small local garden and it happened to be a nonprofit helping elevate thousands of NYC youth.

Thank you to my queen for keeping me grounded through this journey.
