A collared buffalo. A poaching threat. A ranger response — tracked in real time.

This is part of a series of animations showing real-life EarthRanger cases in the field: GPS tracks, radio reports, and patrol coordination. Situational awareness on one map.

Technology can't replace rangers on the ground, but it can help direct them to the right place at the right time.

From Data to Decision-Making, join our Earth Ranger Workshop.

26th to 30th October 2026
Lapalala Wilderness School, Waterberg Region, SA.

Three workshop days cover the adaptive management cycle in practice: field data capture, integration of Cmore and Ecoscope, dashboards, and aligning your data with your MEL framework.

The final day splits into a technical track for data leads and administrators and a management track for reserve managers, so you can go deep on the parts that match your role.

Our 2026 planting season has officially come to an end. Carrying heavy planting backpacks across rugged, steep terrain is definitely not for the faint-hearted, but true teamwork gets the job done.

We are so grateful to our team, partners and volunteers who helped us this season. As we are expecting quite a hot summer, our immediate focus is keeping these saplings watered, while we also begin preparing for the 2027 planting season all over again.

A Marine Protected Area doesn’t protect itself.

23 Bantay-Dagat from Taytay were trained to prevent, identify and respond to illegal fishing. 23 participants, 23 successful exams!

Once officially deputised by the BFAR, they’ll help strengthen marine protection across Taytay.

💙 Congratulations to them, and a huge thank you to our partners: the Municipality of Taytay, BFAR, PCSD and EarthRanger.

Training organised by Sulubaaï as part of the Sea Academy+ Taytay 2025–2028 project.

The heartbeat of Lapalala Wilderness:

As the world celebrates World Rhino Day 2026, we look out over the 48,000 hectares of Lapalala Wilderness with a profound sense of gratitude and responsibility. As the very first reserve in history to introduce black rhinoceros on private land, these ancient giants are woven into our very identity.

Protecting them is a multi-layered promise. It lives in the footsteps of our incredibly brave field rangers patrolling the frontline day and night. It lives in the ground-breaking initiatives of the Lapalala Wilderness School, inspiring the next generation of conservation leaders. And it lives through our invaluable partnerships with allies such as SRP, IRF, CCF, AI2, BRR and MyPlanet.

Rhinos are not just part of our landscape—they are the soul of it.

Today, we celebrate their resilience and renew our absolute commitment to their future. Thank you to our community, our partners, and our supporters who make this sanctuary possible. Together, we are keeping the wild, wild.

Teams from KRRE partner organizations are using @earthrangertech in the field for keeping realtime monitoring records.

A rhino sighting used to sit in a notebook or excel file long before it could be viewed in real time on an all encompassing protected area management and visualisation platform- EarthRanger!

Our goal is to help support getting as many rhinos with transmitters as possible so that this information is readily available. Transmitters are put in at the same time as we do ear-notching - the vet team fits a transmitter into the horn or on the ear, while the animal is sedated.

The ear notch gives that rhino a permanent identity for life. The transmitter reports its position into EarthRanger, where the monitoring team sees it alongside every sighting the rangers log.

We are hosting our first EarthRanger Workshop 26-30 October at Lapalala Wilderness School in the Waterberg region, South Africa.

Field teams across southern Africa are collecting more conservation data than ever before. But data volume alone doesn't create impact, and too often, the gap between what's collected in the field and what informs a management decision remains wide open.

This workshop is built specifically for data leads and protected area managers, the people actively responsible for turning field data into strategic decisions, donor reports, and meaningful conservation outcomes.

Across three days, we will work through the adaptive management cycle, from field data capture through to analysis, reporting and strategic decision-making. We will cover system integrations (including EarthRanger, CMORE, SMART and Ecoscope) and how to align your data systems with MEL frameworks, supported by case studies and good practice from sites across the region. The final day goes deeper on technical skills for data leads and EarthRanger administrators, covering advanced functionalities like analyzers and alerts, customised event types and permission settings.

Participants will leave with:
→ Advanced ER Admin skills; analyzer and alerts
→ EcoScope workflows to extract relevant ER data
→ Integration know-how between EarthRanger and CMORE
→ Insight into aligning data systems with MEL frameworks
→ Understanding of the SERCA roadmap and things to come
