Day 27: QUEER CHOICE, QUEER VOICE

Think of this as dealers choice .. you get to choose the topic for what you want to express.

I’m choosing to celebrate SEX.

We all have different relationships with sex. For some, this is connected to past experiences or relationships, for others it might be connected to media.

And for most of us, there is an additional dollop of society/structural shame attached.

I can remember watching the first #QueerAsFolk. 13 yr old me, lying in my bed, pitch dark but for the tv light. Volume on 1, listening harder for the sound of footsteps on the stairs than to hear the dialogue, and with my finger on the remote.

It was intoxicating. I hadn’t experienced porn by this point, and although this wasn’t porn, it was unlike anything I had seen before.

All iterations of the show have been unique and celebratory, featuring various queer stories. What I loved most was the placement of hot sex in the messy normality of life. There was little padding the stark reality of these peoples experiences, and the drama almost never centring on a characters sexual identity, but the relationships themselves.

Much like @lookinghbo , @eastsiderstv , @sho_thelword , @poseonfx and many others, @russelltdavies63 ‘s characters balance the awkward interactions perfectly against the deep intimacy and release of great, connected sex.

It’s only been in my 30’s that I’ve finally managed to shift significant amounts of imposed shame. I am now much more able to embrace my body, and the connection of my body with my mind, and with others.

I take my sexual health very seriously. But I now know, that allows me to properly enjoy sex and my connection with others.

And man-o-man, sex is worth celebrating!

Shout it loud, shout it proud .. use your QUEER CHOICE, QUEER VOICE 📸
