Just a dude that loves fishing and used to daydream about it all day to get through the work day. But, now I’m retired baby! 🤣🤣🤣

Where have I been? Just becoming super obsessed with woodworking and resining anything I can get my hands on.

This crate turned out way better than expected.

Constructed from pine and pressed board, complete with resin beach top using actual sand, this piece took longer than I thought it would. I learned how to use resin specifically for this piece and the “Christmas gift” to my dad and step mom (revealed in next post). Although the video makes it look so easy, it actually took me about 15 tries to learn how to make waves like I wanted. Thank goodness for @diyhuntress I couldn’t have done it without her amazing skills and help!

The Who, What, and Why behind this piece:
~~~~~~~
I made this crate for my dear friends David and Alicia. They lost their sweet Ava about a year ago. Ava was a huge part of their life and I wanted to make something by hand for them. David and Alicia used to take Ava to the beach A LOT. Ava had doggie friends there, and I know how much Alicia and David love animals. I wanted to make something that would not only memorialize Ava, but would also something that would give back to the other pups on the beach. (That’s who this family is... big givers). This crate is filled with tennis balls and Ava’s fav blue racquet balls so that other pups can have an awesome time at the beach. The top is resined on both sides. After searching through my texts messages with Alicia, and talking with David, I took a bunch of little tidbits about Ava that made her who she was and resined them on the underside. I tried to blow resin clouds with a straw but it turned out just like a hazy fog... nonetheless, I feel like it turned out better than I could have hoped. Thank you to Alicia and David for loving this piece as much as I loved making it. I am so glad I could make something positive from the negative. Alicia keeps coining it as an “Anna Original” which makes me feel like an artist... something I’ve never thought I was. Turns out, I might just have some talent in the hands. Who knew!
