We met for coffee and had so much fun chatting that we all forgot to take pictures. 🤭 It was so lovely to be with other writers and chat about our drafts and processes. 👩🏻‍💻 We discussed all things writing and even the possibility of chapter swapping in the future. 👀🖤 Be sure to check out these fellow writers! ⬇️ @ec.writerr @jordangoetzwrites @susette_xo @taylorugrinow.writes @dbstarling @kjl98235 @jessicarmauthor @sedonaheeler @sheena_lynnn . . —-if you’re in a writing group, what do y’all do that we should incorporate? 👩🏻‍💻🖤 . . . Want to know my favorite writing resources after 3 years of making writing a priority? Here you go: ✍🏻 Drafting: My first wip was all trial and error and I had no idea what I was doing. Only later on, I found helpful books on the craft and podcast to help you understand specific aspects of a novel better. And boy, do I wish I had known all of this BEFORE starting with draft 1 🙈 Listen to: @katiewolfwrites or @savannah.gilbo Read: The Fantasy Fiction Formuls, Troubleshooting Your Novel or The Emotion Thesaurus 💻 Editing: Feedback from other people helped me most to understand what aspects truly don’t work in my own story. And since I have no avid readers/ writers in my circle of friends (and didn’t trust the internet enough to put my work out there), I searched for paid options. If you want to start with a less pricier resource: @manuscriptacademy offers Written Critiques on your work from real agents and editors. It doesn’t replace a full manuscript analysis but it’s a good tool to spot strengths and weaknesses early in the editing process. If you can afford an editor: definitely do it! I worked with an editor I found via @reedsy_hq and still benefit from everything I learned during this collaboration (even though my developmental edits are done). 📧 Querying: If you are going through this stage, you can’t miss Query Tracker (even though it’s kind of a bummer to see all the stats sometimes 😅). Publishers Marketplace is another good tool for a more in-depth analysis but I wouldn’t recommend to pay for it before you have a list of agents you actually want to query. 🤝 Connecting: Don’t underestimate the power of people who inspire you and cheer for you! Before starting this account, I didn’t know any other writers - and that can feel isolating and make you believe that writing is not something you can do. I tagged some of the amazing people on my follow-list - feel free to give their accounts some well-deserved love ♥️ #writergram #writingabook #writingcommunityofinstagram #querying #writinginspo #bookishgirl #aspiringauthor
