Climate action asks a lot of the people doing it, and for many young Australians, eco-anxiety and burnout come with the territory. 💚

@ecomind_aus is a youth climate mental health charity supporting young people aged 16 to 35 through climate distress and activist burnout, so they can look after themselves while they keep showing up for the planet.

At our Healthy People, Healthy Planet crowdfunding event, ECOMIND will share how it's turning its climate mental health first aid programme into an accessible, licensable framework and digital hub ahead of COP31.

📍 Bupa Campus, Melbourne (or join online) | 🗓 Monday 26 October 2026 | ⏰ 5:30pm – 8:30pm AEDT

Big room. Busy leaders. One ask. 🏛️

At Parliament House, I sat with a group of health & Climate leaders facing one choice: walk in with a long list of asks, or walk in with one.

In busy rooms, the person who makes it easy to say yes is the one who gets heard.

How to make your ask land:
→ Think like the person you’re asking. Their week is chaos.
→ Be a resource, not a burden. One clear ask, and offer to do the work.
→ Let the evidence speak. Show you’ve done the hard part.
→ Plant seeds. Today’s small yes builds trust for tomorrow’s big one.

The pattern I see in every room, from Parliament to a village in Fiji:
1. People come together
2. They talk it through (yarning, talanoa, talk story)
3. A good facilitator brings out the best thinking
4. Someone writes it down
5. It goes on paper, so it travels further than the room

Most groups stop at step two.

What’s the one clear ask you need to make right now? 👇

Yesterday was epic 👏👏👏 60 leaders from across our region and across sectors came together to talk climate and health at @parliamenthousecanberra 💙🩵

Together, we have emerged with the Leaders Summit Statement, a call from the health sector to @albomp @chrisbowenmp to take serious, rapid action on climate change while Australia is in the negotiations seat at COP31.

It was an honour to hear first about the new CDC guidance for health sector resilience and adaptation planning from @rebecca_white_lyons 👏

Very grateful to everyone who made the journey, from the big cities, central Queensland, the remote NT, Wellington in Aotearoa to Suva in Fiji and Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea.

⚡ Young people aren't just waiting for climate and health solutions, they are taking action themselves.

On 2026 International Youth Day, six young leaders walked us through what they are building in their own communities. Their work ranged from mental health advocacy in Australia and climate and malaria research in Zimbabwe, to student-led advocacy in Pakistan, community action in Colombia, food safety research in Nigeria, and using sound and technology to address eco-anxiety in Morocco.

👉 Check out our "Youth leadership on climate and health action" webpage to find out more about these young leaders, learn from their experiences, and take away ideas that could inspire or be adapted to climate and health work in your community.

Your survival guide to adulting in a planetary crisis 🌱

Nobody teaches you how to navigate uncertainty, regulate your emotions or care for yourself through hard times. Those are skills we learn.

Sustainability is about building the resilience to stay engaged, hopeful and human in an overwhelming world.

This carousel shares some of the lessons I’ve learnt through the @ecomind_aus certificate on climate anxiety, burnout, community care, rest and showing up sustainably for what matters.

As ECOMIND reminds us, burnt out people can’t save a burning planet 💚
