Yesterday, Sharon attended the Baby Loss APPG, where we heard from bereaved parents, charities and professionals about pre 24 week pregnancy and baby loss and how care can be improved.

One of the key themes was the need for better data. We still don’t have a complete picture of how many families experience pregnancy and baby loss before 24 weeks.

Sharon spoke about the need for better statistics around twin and triplet pregnancies, particularly losses before 24 weeks and terminations for medical reasons.

At Footprints Baby Loss, we know that many of the families we support aren’t represented in the figures we have. Without accurate data, these families risk being overlooked and the true risks of multiple pregnancies underestimated.

There were lots of important discussions, but we need to see real changes in care, better data and recognition for every family affected by baby loss. 🩷💙

I know a lot of people who have had early pregnancy scans and heard the news, “Sorry, I can’t see anything…”

I’ve heard this before, more than a few times. However, today was different. The clinician confirmed I had a Pregnancy in an Unknown Location (PUL). Having had 7 losses before, this isn’t something I’ve heard.

PUL is not a final diagnosis but more of an interim diagnosis while a confirmation is sought. It could be too early to see a foetus, a potential ectopic or confirmation of a miscarriage.

It’s crazy how you can have so much experience and so many losses, scans etc etc and still experience something new.

I’m not out of the woods yet, as with many early pregnancy’s, so much is unknown.

The APPG on Baby Loss is hosting a panel event on early pregnancy loss as part of Baby Loss Awareness Week, bringing together leading voices including @michellewelshmp, representatives from @sandscharity and @tommys, @ectopicpregnancy and @miscarriageuk

As a bereaved mother from Scotland, I am committed to advocating for families across the UK and was honoured to be invited to hear the findings of the Maternity Review. It was encouraging to hear from organisations and policymakers working to improve care and support for those affected by pregnancy and baby loss.

The work of everyone continues to amplify the voices of bereaved parents, championing improvements in care, support, research, and recognition for families affected by loss.

Across the UK, early pregnancy loss remains a significant yet often overlooked area of healthcare. While attention is rightly given to maternity and neonatal services, the experiences of those affected by miscarriage, recurrent pregnancy loss, ectopic pregnancy, and other early losses can still be absent from wider policy discussions.

Challenges remain around data collection, access to bereavement support, consistency of care, and the recognition of early pregnancy loss within national women's health strategies. Families should not face a postcode lottery when seeking care and support during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Every loss matters. Women and families across the UK deserve compassionate, consistent, and joined-up care that recognises the lifelong impact of baby loss and ensures that nobody has to navigate their grief feeling unseen, unheard, or unsupported.

18 months. I honestly don’t know where to begin. 🩷

There’s been weight loss, but there’s also been grief, an ectopic pregnancy, surgery and some of the darkest days of my life.

Somewhere along the way, I found running, and it became so much more than just exercise. It gave me something to focus on when everything else felt overwhelming.

Survive by Lewis Capaldi helped me through some really difficult moments, so using this song for my transformation video means more than I can explain. 🥹

I’m still healing, still figuring things out, but looking back at these photos reminds me just how far I’ve come.

And I’m proud of that. 🩷

Seeing Baby Loss Awareness Week recognised on such an incredible scale is a very special moment. For bereaved parents and families, it’s a powerful reminder that their babies are remembered and that they are not alone.

We’re incredibly proud to bring this special moment to life, working alongside the charities and organisations supporting Baby Loss Awareness Week to shine a light on pregnancy and baby loss and ensure that every baby’s life is recognised and remembered.

A quote from One Tree Hill that always stayed with me and that resonates even more during BLAW "I was thinking about the finality of it all. How someone can leave your world in a blink of an eye and be gone forever. It's too enormous to think about. It's too hard. And then you're just supposed to go on, right? Like you're just supposed to deal with it."

When we make our life plan, no one has joining "this club" on their bingo card. No one hopes for it. No one dreams of it. Such a monumental moment happens - a blip on the radar that is your life, and all of a sudden all of your hopes and dreams, your wants, your thoughts are changed in a blink of an eye.

My baby Loss journey shaped me in ways I'm both grateful and resentful for. I think I have more empathy and understanding now than I ever had - I feel things deeper and resonate with people on a different level than before. But I am also filled with so much sadness, and anger. There is a weight in my heart that wasn't there before. Those feelings and that anxiety shaped my fertility journey, it shaped my pregnancy journey, and it has shaped my journey into motherhood. It stripped me of so much joy, hopefulness and happiness. It left me with scars both physical and mental that I battle every day.

Mother's often feel shame around losing a baby, like it is their fault, they feel scared and alone, they bottle it up, they say they're fine and that they are ok, they smile and go about their life, I know that because I am one of those.

I longed to be a mum. I fought to be a mum. I was so lucky to be successful. And I was so unlucky that I became a statistic. I became 1 in 4 to lose a child. I became the 1 in 8 to suffer from an ectopic pregnancy. I could have lost my life - I was repeatedly told it was a possibility, instead I lost a part of my soul. We lost our baby.

Im a mum of 2. But you see 1.

I dont need a specific day to remember my loss - because I carry it with me every moment of every day. But this year on BLAW I will light my candle and send some extra love to the baby that made me a mum first, to my angel whose footprints will remain on my heart, to heartbeat we didn't get to keep.

My Ectopic Pregnancy Story!✨

As its Baby Loss Awareness Week I wanted to share my story! Prior to my ectopic pregnancy journey I didn’t know much about it! I was pretty much clueless tbh! Not having enough knowledge on it left me feeling so lost and I remember trying to get my head around what was happening whilst searching social media and the web for information and comfort!

The more I learnt about it was the more I felt assured and found it all easier to process! Losing a baby and losing a tube was a hard thing to process but I got through it and went on to conceive 3 months later! Now I have a healthy baby boy that we all love and cherish so much! It’s been 2 years and I really want to be a part of keeping the conversation alive.

My heart goes out to anyone facing any kind of pregnancy loss! It’s so tough! I pray all women going through loss are comforted with love, grace & strength! I pray your experience doesn’t dim your light and you are able to see the light at the end of the tunnel! Sending so much love ❤️

Wave of Light 2026 💫

A moment to light a candle & remember our babies🕯️

Something a little different for my page but a cause that is incredible close to my heart 💛

This year will be 9 years since our first loss and 2 years since our last. I’m so so so pleased that during my 40th party last week, we’ve managed to raise over £300 for The Little Big Book Drop, organised by @the_worstgirlgang_ever This means we can provide 60 books to services at both Salford Royal and Bolton Royal Hospitals. What a fitting end to my 30’s, which were a real mix of emotions, difficulties and absolute joy 🌈
