Asteroid Ekosystem — live October 19.

A 21st-century supergroup. Four of Australia’s most adventurous minds — pianist Alister Spence, Lloyd Swanton of The Necks, percussionist Toby Hall, and Ed Kuepper, founding member of The Saints — bring their acclaimed album Sounds Have Dreams to The JazzLab. Forward-thinking, exhilarating, and rare.

📅 October 19 · MIJF · live, broadcast worldwide on Oh! Jazz — subscribe, link in bio.

On this day… “There’s a tendency to blabber mindlessly about this single, it’s so bloody incredible. This Queensland combo had to record and release on their own label; for some reason Australian record companies think the band lack commercial potential. What a bunch of idiots.” - John Ingham

Also on this day; Adelaide and Archies Creek shows for The Saints ‘73-‘78 on sale now via feelpresents.com

Adelaide and Archies Creek added to The Saints ’73-’78 summer 2027 tour! On-sale 10.00am Friday October 16th, coincidentally 50 years to the day since the infamous Sounds “Single of this and every week” review.

For those keeping track of such things, the single was recorded in May 1976 before The Clash, Damned, Buzzcocks, Generation X and more had even played a note. Maybe worth noting too that the Ramones debut wasn’t released in Australia until August 1976. Anyhoo…

Tickets for both the new and existing shows on-sale via feelpresents.com

Around this time 50 years ago the reviews for (I'm) Stranded (the single) started trickling in. The UK response was favourable but the Australian media was not so sure. Case in point being this 4BL Brisbane radio station interview with Chris from October 1976. "The sound it's absolute garbage" ... Listen to the end. Enjoy!

CATCH O’ THE DAY!
Local legend @edkuepper was on fire creatively during the early-‘90s, not content with pumping out a steady stream of acclaimed stripped-back solo albums so putting together new rock band The Aints to once more mine the louder terrain he’d pioneered years earlier as sonic architect of rock legends The Saints. The Aints’ 1992 third album ‘Autocannibalism’ is an absolute masterclass in primitive rock’n’roll - AllMusic called it, “loud, grubby, three-chord rock, like The Saints might have sounded if they had originated in Seattle” - and not only has it been pressed onto wax for the first time but we have copies on limited edition indie exclusive orange vinyl, making it the perfect time to get raucous with The Aints!

Friday October 2 is Bandcamp Friday. Is this the last Bandcamp Friday of 2026? That depends, there’s two more scheduled but as I’m sure you all know, tomorrow is never guaranteed. So while we’re planning for an impending apocalypse, why not go crazy and load up on 12XU’s 2026 releases and fantastic in-print items from the recent past. The new Water Damage 2XLP, ‘Repair’ (coming October 23) is up for preorder, and with their first US tour just completed, The Sleeves’ self-titled LP is being repressed and you can order that, too.

I’m stranded on my own.
I’m stranded far from home.

It’s my last day in Sweden and I had to take a return visit to one of my new favourite shops to retrieve a record that I never thought I’d own. Australia’s The Saints self released debut single on Fatal that the band released back in the summer of ‘76 in a supposed pressing of 547 copies. I’m absolutely in shock to have this coming home with me, the most excited I’ve ever been to buy a record (which is saying a lot). Thank you to the lovely owners of @anidealforlivingsthlmab , making dreams come true! I can’t wait to come back to this incredible shop.
