Played a special jazz duo concert today on the LES with the incredible Pauline Jean. The energy was beautiful — a really tuned in crowd, and Pauline had everyone scatting along by the end. It was the first time I’ve ever played “Autumn Leaves” with a singer who threw in a few choruses in Haitian Creole. Must say, it was really groovin’ and swinging — a really special time on this faux fall day. No flooding, no extreme heat — just a joy playing great music with a great musician.

Bebop Scale Bootcamp: Year-End Finale!

What a smash! 🎶 We wrapped up with highlights from the year, essential Bebop scale patterns, practice strategies, and everyone sounded amazing over the blues. Huge improvements on chord changes, extended lines, and a very bad George Benson lick!

Thanks for a wonderful year of music. Back in January—see you then!

Happy holidays,
Ed

Rode an e-bike to the gig today -minor schlep of equipment made it a breeze, though I did have to keep the lunchbox amp steady over a few bumps! Always a good time playing with Maestro Evan, and the autumn weather made the trip even more glorious.

Had a great time at the Bebop Scale Bootcamp last night! We did a ton of directed playing and improvising, playing each example slowly, mastering it, then with a backing track set to a medium tempo. Congrats to everyone who participated—you all sounded great. See you in June!

Everyone did fantastic in last night's workshop! It was certainly difficult material but we got through all the playing challenges and the Joy Spring Etudes. (Dig Guy’s left-handed ES-165 -he actually plays both lefty and righty!?!). Join us next month!
