The exhibition may be closed, but the publication is here. An Index of Wearing and Reading Fashion Archives — published on the occasion of No Place for Mannequins: Remaking the Fashion Archive, curated by @ricardabg and @t_o_d_d_robinson (UTS Gallery, 2026) — collects artist responses to what it means to make or unmake an archive. Our contribution, co-authored with XEROXED and Beau Bertens, brings fragments of De Naaistersbode (The Seamstresses’ Courier, 1898–1901) into the present as a wearable publication — part of All Work Is Women’s Work, a project that treats the archive not as a resting place, but as an active site for knowledge production. Birds with a Broken Heart Roberta Marrero with Jermaine Gallacher Opening: Saturday, April 11 at 6 PM Camera Doppia Via Francesco Ingegnoli 13, Milan www.cameradoppia.cc Birds with a Broken Heart is the first solo exhibition in Italy by poet and artist Roberta Marrero (1972–2024). It brings together a selection of 20 works on paper produced over nearly two decades, presented within a site-specific installation designed by Jermaine Gallacher. Moving between visual poetry, drawing, and collage, Marrero’s practice unfolds as an introspective assemblage of heterogeneous elements drawn from different ready-made sources. In her work, autobiographical and imaginary dimensions merge, addressing self-definition as a queer and trans subject, alongside homoeroticism, religious belief, and desire. Through processes of appropriation and re-signification, Marrero empties out dominant symbols and re-codes them within a queer, trans, and iconoclastic imaginary, creating space for a personal and political urgency: to sabotage the capitalist bourgeois order of things. Birds with a Broken Heart is organized in collaboration with Inés Plasencia and Víctor Mora Gaspar, with curatorial assistance by Guglielmo Benassi, and design assistance by Gabriella Massey, Ben Burgis, Thomas Britain McGovern, Edoardo Colandrea and Massimo Faion. The encounter with the queer universe of Sal Salandra @sal.salandra.thread.paintings thread paintings inspired the film Drunken Noodles, written and directed by Lucio Castro @lucio_castro . “That was in 2021, and I spent the next three years figuring out how to create something fictional—my own truth—through his paintings.” After premiering at several film festivals across the U.S. and Europe, the film has finally landed in Milan. Don’t miss the screening at Fondazione Prada @fondazioneprada on November 21, 2025, at 8:30 p.m. Congratulations Lucio Castro and Sal Salandra on this milestone and for presenting the film in such a prestigious venue! For Theater of Delight, Fabio Zambernardi, in collaboration with Sal Salandra, has created a series of limited-edition bandanas featuring motifs from the artist’s paintings. One side nods to the hanky code; the other brings Salandra’s visual world into fashion. Inspired by Salandra’s past life, Zambernardi has also designed a series of black plexiglass hand mirrors which, through a Situationist détournement, transform an everyday object into a tool of sexual pleasure, turning the mirror into a spanker.
