What is a ghost, but a liminal person? What is lore, but a collection of memories? What is life, but a dream searching for meaning? Backrooms lets you know it all was real.

FAVORITE COMPOSERS: EDO VAN BREEMAN ( @edovanb )

Watched “The Backrooms” with my daughter today and found myself fanboying over the score and sound design by one of my favorite composers.

What I love most about Van Breemen’s work is his total refusal to rely on cheap horror tropes. It’s sparse, tactile, and relentlessly heavy. Rather than relying purely on standard orchestration, his scores merge classical foundations with raw electronic experimentation, tape manipulation, and spatial frequency shifts. That deep, patient tension is a massive inspiration for what kind of electronic composer I want to be.

If you haven’t listened to his work on “Keeper”, “Afflicted”, “The Backrooms” or “The Monkey”, you are missing a masterclass in slow-burning psychological dread.

Who are your favorite composers or sound designers that inspire you? Drop them in the comments.

“It’s like describing a dog to someone who’s never seen one, and asking them to draw it”

The haunting original score to one of the year’s biggest films is coming to vinyl. 👀

This atmospheric score composed by Director Kane Parsons and Edo Van Breemen, is pressed across 2 discs of black vinyl, housed in a stunning tri-gatefold jacket with custom die-cuts.

A soundtrack designed to pull you right back into the yellow halls… and make you question what’s waiting around the next corner.
