Roasted clutch. Flat rear tire. Somehow a podium.

Earlier this year, I dragged the Bullitt OG2 back out to the desert for another crack at the Biltwell 100.

Prep was questionable. The bike fought me. Things went sideways pretty quickly.

And somehow, we ended up third.

Finally got the full story up on The Bullitt.

In 1984, Harley-Davidson introduced the Evolution motor which replaced the aging Shovelhead with something a little more reliable. Some people credited this with helping Harley-Davidson pull out of its slump. Rouser made me this bike maybe five or six years ago now? It’s been all over the Western United States and Baja too but it was time for a facelift. @flyingpez made some pipes, swapped out the wheels, changed up the controls and fixed a bunch of things that I had half assed repaired through the years. I’m glad to see @edsubias is publishing print motorcycle publications with @thefactionmoto.

Years ago as a ballet dad I’d walk over from @milwaukeeballet and sit at @fuelcafemilwaukee to do homework and read and kill time in the company of motorcycles and people who ride them.

One night met a guy hanging out who was:
1. Also named Ed.
2. Also wrote and took photographs;
3. About motorcycles and
4. We had work published in the very same issue of the epic art/motorcycle racing magazine from England called @sideburnmag.

I was always glad to see and talk with Ed and he’s now back home in California putting together all kinds of motorcycle events and photo/video media behind the scenes of various companies.

Here in this one is Milwaukee’s @rustorationcycles on the cover and inside they discuss his world record speed runs at the Bonneville Salt Flats.

The Biltwell 100 2026 edition, last minute decision to go to California for 5 days to race 75miles in the desert 🏜️ .
The idea? Pre run the bike to race the Baja 1000 and pick up my 1988 Ford Econoline that will be our chase truck during the Baja 1000 two weeks later + fly in as much spare parts as I can carry to build the race bike.

We raced and we raced hard, probably the fastest racing on a 60s Triumph I ever did. Had a great start having the lead for a couple of second to have Florian & Forrest pass me and battle hard all day, Florian had a crash and lost the lead which led to me and Forrest going after it to the finish line. We came seconds apart. It was rad, so freaking rad! Fast dudes racing very old fast bikes, on a rough terrain 🔥!

In an industry where some folks spend more time chasing algorithms than apexes, it’s refreshing to meet a guy like Trike Mike.

Born in Arkansas but seemingly living somewhere between a Love’s Truck Stop and the next starting line for the last 15 years, Mike burns more fuel, chews more Skoal, and wins more races than he spends worrying about likes, followers, or making the perfect reel.

The best part? If Instagram disappeared tomorrow, Trike Mike wouldn’t notice until someone told him at the gas pump. He’d still be riding, racing, wrenching, and having the time of his life.

How many people in the motorcycle world can honestly say that?

Check out the latest episode of Fools Gold for a healthy dose of pure, unfiltered enthusiasm for anything with two or three wheels. Trike Mike reminds us what this whole motorcycle thing was about long before hashtags were invented. Thanks to @edsubias for always killing it on filming and editing

Characters is what our scene is all about and few are as colorful as Trike Mike of @killerspeedusa . Whether he’s renting roller dogs from the local Loves or hurting hearts at Long John Silvers, Trike Mike pulls no punches. We all learned in math class 3>2 but Mike proves it every time he’s on a track. We caught up to him (barely) at the Costa Mesa Speedway and he shared some words of wisdom in between winning heat’s and signing hero cards.
