#tldr This is an ode to ATLAS with @christopher_matthews_choreo

On the last day of the program a few questions were posed to us as a group. The first being where did you land?

I’ve been thinking about this one the most because I don’t feel like my feet are quite on the ground yet from the most incredible summer in Vienna at @impulstanz_festival. The new friends I made, the new ways of working I learned, and the sheer amount of love and support I felt in this program are the things I’m going to take with me for the rest of my life (that’s the summary of my answer to the second question posed btw which was what are you going to take with you?).

I’m still working on the third question that pertains more to my next piece but I think it still ties into how I want to work and how I want to move forward in my dancemaking. This summer I learned is that it’s all connected. My life is my dance. It’s seen in every hug, elevator selfie, group photo, and even in the chicken I sketched on @a.k.a.stevie’s cast. And better yet this dance can be full of joy if pause to take it in.

xoxo

I am leaving @impulstanz_festival feeling incredibly invigorated by the beautiful experiences and especially working with my second cohort of the Atlas programme. It is a privilege to mentor such gorgeous artist. Engage in practise, critical thinking and expanded ways of choreography. But more importantly we practise care, something the world locally and globally could use. To see care as first response is overwhelming. We took care of each other and our practises. We prioritised joy and actively looked to see joy in the world around us. Bringing joy in to our lives as a political act. I am full and my heart has grown even bigger because of these beautiful humans.

Especially for this edition of the Festival, composer and pianist Philipp Rüttgers has created three new works, he will perform with his fellow musicians and two dancers Miri Lee and Edward Lloyd from the jazz and improvisation scene.

Art (as) Care comes to life through the connection between artists and audience. Rather than placing the artists at the centre, each composition experiments with the space and the arrangement to create different experiences for the audience. The audience can use the space to move around during the performances, and. We will experiment with visual and auditory cues. As a result, the audience gets a different sense of listening and watching.
The final piece has been created especially for participants in the music or dance workshops. It enables people without a background in the theatrical arts to experience what it is like to prepare and take part in a performance. https://unexpectedsubjects.nl/festival-2026/

teaser ‘at the edge of connection’

20 june ~ research process
@intro_in_situ
3–6 september ~ performance
@culturanovafestival at @kasteelwijlre

at the edge of connection is about the fragile boundary between a place and the self, and what happens when that boundary begins to dissolve.

In the choreographic sound installation, Clarinde explores how moving through the world is never a solitary act. Every step, every gesture, holds the potential to link bodies, individual and collective, into something larger than themselves. Connection is constantly being shaped, negotiated, and felt.

This time, the garden of Dat Bolwerck acts as an active force, a presence that performs alongside the bodies within it. The work emerges from this specific ground and its conditions.

What unfolds goes beyond movement through space. It becomes a continuous exchange between environment and self — a search for where one ends and the other begins. Knowing takes place through the body, in motion.

Looking back to look forward.

Our second-year students are currently channeling all their energy into finalizing their thesis, but the echoes of their Expositions of Artistic Research are still very much alive in our spaces.

From bodies navigating systemic contradictions and delivery routes reimagined as choreographic scores, to radical collaborations with bogs and the intentional dismantling of patriarchal structures in aerial arts—these works challenged, shifted, and moved us.

Swipe to revisit the moments that shaped Day 1 of our EARS presentations.

Last weekend, ‘at the edge of connection’ at @datbolwerck

Sounds recorded in the garden were returned through speakers into the same place, coexisting with sounds already present.

It remained unclear whether a sound came from the garden itself or from a recording. The performers listened and responded to both, finding their way through this unstable acoustic reality.
