Just start!

Nobody is coming to save you, but nobody is coming to stop you either. Ed reminds us that expression is always worth it.

Betting on yourself starts before anyone else gets it.

Even when the post flops, when someone else is already doing it, or when you’re not sure what you’re adding yet.

At some point, you just have to hit post and trust there’s value in what only you can make.

Meaningful creative work starts with caring about it yourself.

Not everyone will know the full story, but people can feel when something was made with intention.

That’s the weight of it.

Most people hit the “I don’t know if I can do this” part.

That doesn’t mean you stop. Sometimes you just have to take the next step, figure it out as you go, and let yourself be new at something.

Ed has taught himself a lot of what he does. Photography, videography, murals, design, all of it came from jumping in and figuring it out as he went.

Creativity has always felt like the one thing that was fully his, something only he could express in his own way.

Instead of gatekeeping by sharing the tools and process someone else can learn the same thing, and the beauty of art is they’ll never make it exactly like he does.

Ed was standing on one of his own murals when we filmed this.

The court at Briggs Park was part of a three basketball court series with Lions & Rabbits, and this one was his to design and install.

He said once the idea came to him, he was so excited he made the concept that same day.

A year later, the work is still there, still being used, and still part of the neighborhood.

After a lot of big life changes, Ed has started introducing himself with one word: creative.

After a delayed DACA renewal caused him to lose his job, he had to pivot and figure out what came next fast. The creative work had already been there, growing in the background for years so he went all in.

Not the plan he expected, but maybe the push he needed.
