Come perceive and receive the divine gift with me, Andrew, Austyn, and Maggie delivering beetblog a la quartet,
Eamon Fogarty in top ensemble format (an upright bass player is earned - & if anyone’s earned it…),
And Sophia Pastorius-Young serving , as I remember it, songs of deep humanity delivered in an unforgettable aliengelic voice -
@dadabarnyc on Friday the 28th (rn; tonorrow).

Now im gonna share my tiny thoughts about nyc , bc I’ll be leaving to go somewhere else for a bit soon (taking suggestions still btw), and somewhere in that leaving I feel permission to meander.

NYC flows (over) with life’s niceties.
Notably, the city rolls deep with music (the bread of love, one of life’s nicer things).

lucky lucky lucky to be steeped in it - playing with artists I’ve admired for years now (Matt Norman, Austyn Wohlers,) +
collaborating with the next generation of luminary freak artists (Maggie, Paige)

and hearing / seeing music so beautiful, authentic, and friedadelic, that my sweet rube ears can barely fathom -
coming to mind atm:
- Orchid McRae, Selendis Sebastian Alexander Johnson, AJ Medeiros ensemble. Just see it if you can and know the truth.
- both a solo Kwami Winfield offering as well as a Winfield/Norman duo set that felt just as (idk the word, historically?) cutting/educational in its geographic and temporal context as did the music feel mind bending to my little music loving brain.
- cal fish set that flowed in perfect pace both spatially and sonically - the word in my heads that keeps rushing to describe it is grace, but the remembered scene in my mind is that of the entire audience levitating slightly without awareness until cal was finished.
- Stefani Bondari, live on the grand piano at the stone circle theatre. Can’t even think of words - if I get permission I’ll leak the live recording I made.
- a set by (I cannot remember your names I am sorry) @nocturnal_cellist and @gmefleh at a gorgeous gathering/reading/celebration at trains.
Never have I ever been so energetically 180’d from an exhausted wish to slip the rest of the evenings music to pure entrancement ecstatic listening.

The newest Catching Up With w/ Andy Bodes on East Village Radio is up on the archive! (LINK IN BIO)

The first hour is on the mellow side, then in the second hour its a good amount of late 80’s college rock, some plunderphonics and fun, then an unfortunately sort of rushed tribute to 120 Minutes’ Dave Kendall, who was responsible for a great deal of my exposure to the world of being a music cuckoo.

Every spin means alot and helps us do what we dü.

XO

𝗕𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗹𝘆𝗻! So jazzed to bring my set to @sleepwalk.nyc on Fri, 6/26 and to share the evening with fellow troubadours @fieldguides and @eeaammoonn. NY friends, hope you’ll join us for the revelry in such a cool spot. Link to tickets in bio. And learn more about FG & EF below.

𝗙𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀 is the sprawling chamber-folk project of Hudson Valley-based artist Benedict Kupstas, accompanied by an expansive list of collaborators both live and on record—including members of The War On Drugs, Adeline Hotel, and Stars Like Fleas. With Ginkgo, the band’s third album—after 2014’s Boo, Forever (which The Big Takeover called “sprawling, dense, and mysterious”) and 2019’s This Is Just a Place (which Gold Flake Paint called “one of the year’s most rewarding discoveries”)—Field Guides have created a “profoundly organic indie folk space” (PopMatters).

𝗘𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗼𝗴𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘆 is a composer, singer, and audio archivist from New Hampshire currently based in Brooklyn whose work focuses on an idiosyncratic approach to songcraft that emphasizes dense and evershifting harmonic structures and elegant two-part singing. His recent shows have featured some of the more squirrely songs in his back catalog, performed by a small crew of enormously talented (and very patient!) collaborators.
