We woke up with so much gratitude ❤️

Thanks to your prayers, shares, and generosity, we officially crossed the $10,000 mark this weekend!

Elaine and Cora are making steady progress. Elaine is resting and healing after her donation, and Cora is adjusting wonderfully to her new kidney: dialysis-free!

Because neither can physically care for the other right now, they must remain near @uihealth for a 90-day post-op recovery. To help manage expenses month-by-month, we are focusing on broken-down monthly milestones.

🏁Our August Goal: $15,000

Crossing $10K puts us at 67% toward our August goal! These funds go directly toward lodging near the hospital, 24/7 caregiving support, and daily recovery needs.

3 Ways You Can Stand With Us Today:

1️⃣ Donate: Any amount makes a direct impact.

2️⃣ Share: Reposting this or sending the link to friends expands our village.

3️⃣ Connect: DM if you have leads on corporate sponsorships, grants, or community resources!

Thank you for ensuring Elaine and Cora don’t navigate this journey alone. Here’s to another week of healing! ❤️‍🩹

TODAY, August 7, is exactly ONE YEAR since that call.

Behind every miracle, there’s a story of refusal - refusing to accept a broken system, refusing to take “no” for an answer, and refusing to give up on the people we love.

Swipe through to read Elaine’s full, unfiltered story of how we ended up in Chicago - from getting that devastating news on a dusty highway between Bakersfield and Barstow to celebrating two weeks post-transplant thanks to @uihealth.

Thank you to everyone who has read, shared, prayed, and helped us make a way when there wasn’t one.

After weeks of uncertainty, yesterday brought the moment we’ve been praying for: Cora is home. Having both Elaine and Cora resting under one roof at our hotel, recovering side-by-side from simultaneous transplant surgeries, is a feeling I can’t put into words (but I’ll try).

Today, as two of the most important women in my life journey through this 90-day post-op stay in Chicago, I am reminded that every single day of this recovery is a privilege.

But we don’t carry this alone. Crossing the 40% mark of Cora’s recovery fund (a @GoFundMe created by our longtime family friends) is proof of the incredible village surrounding us. [link in bio]

To my family that gathered here in Chicago - Evelyn, Michelle, Uncle Rolly, Auntie Ellen, and my son, Alan, who remains my rock - thank you for starting us all off with so much love and joy together. To our prayer warriors, to our family, friends, colleagues and community champions, to Linda and the Residence Inn team, and to everyone who has donated and/or shared our story: you are making this healing possible.

We still have quite a road ahead of us to cover Cora’s needs while she’s recovering far from home, but seeing them both safe today makes every step worth it.

Seeing my wife @eabelayemateo step up to give her mom a second chance at life has been one of the most humbling moments of my life. Sitting here in Chicago as both of them recover, I am in constant awe of their strength, resilience, and love for each other.

The surgeries at @uihealth were a success, but our mandatory 90-day post-op recovery stay in Chicago is just beginning. With both of them recovering from major surgery simultaneously, managing specialized housing and hiring 24/7 caregiving support is a massive undertaking for our family.

If you are able to donate, share this post, or simply send prayers for Elaine and Cora’s healing over these next few weeks, it would mean the world to us. Thank you to everyone who continues to be part of our village. 🙏
