My inference from this video is that -

“In presence of a good cycling infrastructure, people will be willing to adapt to the different weather conditions and it won’t be an excuse”

What are your observations?

Trains are arguably the most efficient piece of public transport systems. Countries which saw its potential early and invested in building the network are benefiting from it today.

For instance, The Dutch Rail network is one of the most heavily utilised rail networks in Europe. Although not comparable in terms of ridership numbers with India-the Railways have high demand and usage, but clearly fall short in providing the quality of experience.

I am motivated to commute on a bicycle when I have -

✅Safe Infrastructure
🌳Green Landscape
🔇Silent streets
🅿️Free Parking space
🧺🚲A bike with a storage option
🚏Streets with speed limits of 30km/hr or 🐢
🚉Easy connection with Metro/Train/Bus/Ferry

Then I am happy to dress-up for the occasion👔🤵🏻‍♂️ and not for the journey 👷‍♂️🦺

To all the politicians, bureaucrats, planning departments, engineers, urban designers, road & transport ministers, real estate companies-if you have still not understood it then don’t hesitate to ask us on how to do it and re-align the future investments for 🏡green cities and not 🏢grey ones.

Is Europe in the race for autonomous mobility?

That was the question at the heart of Mobility Talks 35, “Building Europe’s autonomous mobility ecosystem”, the EIT Urban Mobility episode held on 8 October with participants from 37 countries. Chiara Marchesi, Founder & Homologation Officer, spoke for Niulinx as the first panellist.

The starting point is clear. The United States and China already count hundreds of thousands of driverless rides every week, while Europe still has no commercial driverless service in operation.

There is, however, a second race: safe, shared services designed around the needs of each territory, and this is where Europe can compete. It is the logic behind Niulinx’s Robo-sharing model: 30 km/h, a well-defined operational domain, nobody on board during autonomous phases, supervision from a remote control centre. Its natural extension is robo-caring, for older people and people with reduced mobility.

The rulebook already exists. Regulation (EU) 2022/1426 provides a European type-approval for fully automated vehicles, and Europe still lacks a player willing to take it all the way. Whoever gets there first will hold an approval valid across all 27 Member States.

Hence the message to cities and operators: every pilot should start as the first step towards a type-approved service, with operational domain, supervision model and data use agreed from day one.

Thanks to EIT Urban Mobility and NOWMORE for the organisation and to Jean-Paul Judson for moderating.

Connecting points, enabling mobility.
