Pre-pandemic, I was working on a photo series photographing podcasters — back when not every single person had a podcast! I was interested in capturing the faces behind the voices we’d come to know so intimately, often without ever seeing them.

I began shooting, and then… bam. Pandemic. And that became the end of the project for me. I never picked it back up, and I never shared the images.

Felt like sharing today!

So excited to say that the first 2 episodes of my new show “ReLiving Single” are now out on YouTube and all podcast platforms. This is a project that has taken years to get made, but it feels so worth it. To get even a tiny opportunity to contribute to the rich legacy of “Living Single” and help @erikaalexanderthegreat & @kimcoles tell their amazing stories is a literal dream.
A dream that started in 2019 when I pitched The Nod a story about the ‘90s Black TV boom/bust told through the experience of one of the actresses who signified that success...and backlash, Erika. Erika was especially generous with her time and her story, and the success of that episode made it clear that the love I had for the show was shared by so many others.
Once I got to Hartbeat, I knew it was the perfect project for our team. We have so much in store for you this season. I have to give a few shout-outs to the folks who’ve made it all possible: @fortheelle @digihanzo , @ambermilan , @astoldbydez , @kennyoliver32 , @_cedricwilson , and @shannonjoyrodgers . Our team is so dedicated to the project, I hope it’s something you can see and feel…

Two seasons (years) down & invited back for season 3. #ShoutOut to everyone who has come to rock with my students & spread knowledge. #ShoutOut to my students past, present, & future. Honestly, I am drained often after a long day or weekend of balancing multiple series (jobs)… until it’s showtime aka I step in front of my class. Thank you USC for allowing me not only to teach, but to teach my way. Allowing me to tell my story. Allowing me to show my students they can be theirselves unapologetically while making a difference. I’m not in this for the bag. I’m not in this for the status. I’m in this because I have a chance to give back. I’d rather inspire the next generation > going out to get lit or getting more sleep any day. I love what I do. Don’t ask me about work/life balance. None of this is work to me. It’s all part of the show… & I love every minute. So, grab a seat, some popcorn, & enjoy the Brooklyn show. I sure am. 😊
