Some of the oldest trees here might have been seedlings 500 years ago. I often wonder how a view like this might look differently 500 years from now.

These shots were taken Friday night using our C-14 at the WCO with everyone who came out with @trellisyyc.south for the tour!

First image: Orion Nebula (M42)
Second: the grand open star cluster M35, with tiny lil NGC 2158 cluster faaaar behind in the upper left!

Thank you to @eklaszus for imaging and processing for the attendees!

Guests at our observatory tour last week were treated to a spectacular display of aurora. What an awe-inspiring evening!

I was able to sneak some early morning equipment testing at our Wilson Coulee Observatory before work on Friday. This is IC342, a large face-on spiral galaxy 12 million light years away (relatively nearby).

We have been hosting dome training sessions at the observatory for @calgaryrasc members throughout October, and have now started imaging training.

Don’t be shy, come and visit the observatory to learn more.

An unexpected treat late Tuesday evening at the Wilson Coulee Observatory. A few of us were collecting data in the dome, and when we emerged around 12:45am, the sky was in motion.

What a pleasant and beautiful surprise!

Member’s NOVA night is this Saturday night at the observatory! Come and visit, and have your own look at the night sky through the Celestron C14.

I made a quick stop at our Wilson Coulee Observatory on the way home from the Alberta Star Party on the weekend. Mid-afternoon daytime viewing was the perfect opportunity to catch a glimpse of Venus in the Celestron C14 telescope. Venus is pretty far away from us right now, so it appears quite small.

It’s wild to think that this tiny disc is pretty close to the same size as our entire planet. Our world really is so tiny, in the grand scheme of things. 🌎 A visit to the observatory always gives a fresh perspective on the world, and our incredibly small place in this enormous universe.

Highlights from the Alberta Star Party this weekend. We were treated to back-to-back clear nights, beautiful sunny days, guest speakers, and door prizes at @astonesthrowrv.

Thanks to everyone who came out and shared the weekend! The stars were shining brightly for us. ✨ 🙏
