Echo The Wind Wanderer. The artist @ekokaxi envisions herself stepping through a portal into a parallel world, where every sensation is hers to discover, touch, and explore. The gallery invites you to awaken your curiosity, reopen your senses, and let your inner child play freely in a space unbound by shame, guilt or rules.

The amazing @ekokaxi has recently presented their PhD thesis proposal that will explore interpersonal trauma/abuse & creating artworks. It is an organic continuation from previous works addressing personal trauma. These works bravely presented an inviting interface to the creator and the audience.

@ekokaxi : "Trauma is not to be cured. It is not a problem needs a solution. To live means living with trauma and the consequential scars and memories."

this house was built by a life long collector of ceramics. multiple 3storiy houses are built by combining various ceramic vessels, tiles and shards with cement.

Jingdezhen is a city known for their long history with ceramic production, that remains active today.

After graduating from Wesley College, Echo Wang (OW2013) took a gap year in Jingdezhen and co-founded the design studio Kangxi Nanjing. Echo contributed towards the world's first documentary on the origin and development of the ceramic slab building technique.

After completing a BA in Object Based Practice @rmituniversity in 2018, Echo focused on exploring ceramics as a material, the constant attempt to challenge ceramics’ finishing point, and the dynamic between artists and audiences. Echo attended the Royal College of Art in 2019 and has continued to refine their thinking in research-based practice. Influenced by the restrictions of a world changed by the coronavirus pandemic, they have broadened their practice beyond studio-based ceramics to include multimedia and cross discipline work, such as stop motion, video editing, music, and sound design. Echo has continued with a Master of Research in Arts and Humanities at the Royal College of Art and continues exploring the roles of physical and digital permanency in preserving the agency of clay.

Echo will always be grateful that she was inspired in Year 11 by art teacher Jane Lewis, who taught her ceramics and influenced her art practice #oldwesleycollegians 🎨

“Often the hands know how to solve a riddle with which the intellect has suffered in vain.”
Attempt to build a tactile, non verbal communication between myself as the artist and the audience, through the medium of art.
