It was an honor to be a part of Antone’s 50th Presents Chicago Bound: Honoring Muddy, Cliff & Blue. These new recordings were assembled to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Austin’s Home of the Blues and to pay tribute to Muddy Waters, the nightclub’s founder Clifford Antone and my father Bobby “Blue” Bland. Thank you @recordingacademy members for your consideration.

Thank you!

Another CY Fest in the books and i have to say that the kids are alright! When @memphis_miller and I took over booking duties three years ago we wanted to make music a centerpiece of the festival again and these groups didn’t disappoint. From the @thenarrowstheband to @degeneratebreakfast to @raneemimam I was so impressed by this youth movement of incredible music in our city. @ekpeabioto and the African Jazz Ensemble capped everything off beautifully too! Until next year….

“I Wouldn’t Treat A Dog (The Way You Treated Me)”—@bamitskam’s stone-cold cover of the Bobby “Blue” Bland deep cut that appears on our upcoming album, Chicago Bound—is out now 🐾

Kam Franklin and BBB’s son/longtime drummer @theroddbland were standout performers on our Antone’s 50th tour, so we couldn’t wait to pair them up again. We cut the track in Memphis at @samphillipsrecording with a killer backing band we dubbed Rodd Bland & The Dreamers: @electraphonic on bass (who also co-engineered with @jacobsciba), Hi Rhythm Section keyboardist Archie “Hubbie” Turner on B3 and Wurlitzer, @bradleythomasstivers and @zachernsttx on guitars, plus a 4-piece horn section led by Marc Franklin.

The song bears extra Antone’s significance, since Angela Strehli cut it on her debut LP Soul Shake.

Stream the song today and pre-order the album, out on August 28th, at the links in our bio. Kam’s debut solo LP, Land of the Neon Sun, will be out on the same day and we can’t wait to hear it in full.
