Last weekend, the Rooftop Treasure Hunt sent attendees racing across New York, unraveling riddles and uncovering secret activities inspired by the films, people, places, and stories that made us! The result was a sprawling game of discovery that took our history of indie cinema spectacle off the screen and into the streets, transforming the city into a living map of three decades of Rooftop Films. Special thank you, again, to our media partners and sponsors at @letterboxd, @wnyc, @gothamist, and @frankfurtkurnit. Team Globe Otters solved all the puzzles (*and* made it to every activation) in record time, winning themselves a cool $5,000 in the process! Other players and teams submitted their answers and received prizes generously donated by our friends at @beaconscloset, @booksaremagicbk, @chipotle, @grandaisybakery, @joecoffeecompany, @nytransitmuseum, @drinkpixeldust, @eatpopaire, @ridersalliance, @shakeshack, @shortsmovietheater, and @varietycoffee. Along the way, participants encountered a range of hidden surprises, including… + Witnessing the creation of a one-of-a-kind piece made by Ushio Shinohara (@shinohara_studio), the legendary 94-year-old Japanese contemporary artist who decorates canvases with boxing gloves dipped in paint, as seen in @ifyoucsomethingsaysomething’s film CUTIE AND THE BOXER (Rooftop 2013)! The performance took place live in his studio, a beautifully chaotic relic of old-school artistic life in New York, which Ushio and his wife Noriko have inhabited since the early ‘80s. + Receiving free psychic readings and healings, courtesy of the stars from @lanawilson’s LOOK INTO MY EYES (Rooftop 2024), in the calming back room of the @questbookshopnyc, where The Spiritualist Church of NYC gathers! + Receiving free psychic readings and healings, courtesy of the stars from @lanawilson’s LOOK INTO MY EYES (Rooftop 2024), in the calming back room of the @questbookshopnyc, where The Spiritualist Church of NYC gathers! + Visiting the dually iconic/infamous McKibbin Lofts, which housed Rooftop’s operations from 1998-2002, when the buildings were nearly empty! Back then, the place was mostly inhabited by rats but, nowadays, treasure hunters were

⚡️💃🏼⚡️🕺🏾 Are you ready for a brand new beat? Join us for our third “Sunday Session” with dancer, coach, and joyous rabble-rouser Nicole Mannarino @electricassembly This time, we’ll be practicing some wildly transformative dancing. Dancing is one of the oldest (and definitely cheapest!) forms of therapy—it’s hard to imagine frowning when the music is really on. So whether you’re scared to death of the dance floor or always ready to go go go, this session should give you some new tools for keeping life moving in the right direction. Sunday Sessions are experimental Sunday morning gatherings to help people connect with something larger than themselves. Each session features karaoke (note: singing is optional ;), readings, and a workshop led by a different guest—including artists, therapists, dancers, musicians, researchers, and others—plus more karaoke! Please join us for weekly gatherings to nourish the soul. Link in bio #HumanConnection #arthealing #gathering #dancemovement #artastherapy

Enjoy a rare look at Eva Dean’s “Sonorous Echo.” Step into the movement, imagery, and atmosphere of this long-unseen cinematic work. “Sonorous Echo” premiered in 2007 at Dance Theater Workshop in New York City, and now, for the first time in 19 years, audiences can step back inside its haunting, playful, and visually rich world. We’re thrilled to share this 6+ minute video reel—a vivid glimpse into the mystery, humor, and magic of the work, brought to life by Alloy Orchestra’s evocative score and by an extraordinary cast of Movement Collaborators. Choreography: Eva Dean Sound Score: Alloy Orchestra  Bass Clarinet: Ken Winokur  Vibes: Terry Donahue Movement Collaborators:  Galumph: Nicole Mannarino  Insomniac: Eva Dean  Siren: Kristin Hatleberg  Mom: Mallory Butcher  Child: Maia Sage Ermansons  Dad: Tony Nilsson  Drunkard: Marcel Dou Roig
