Wow! What a challenging project that I’m so humbled the @delelectriccoop trusted me to make their mascot Willie Wiredhand. Willie was first brought to life by Drew McLay who entered a contest to draw a mascot for the @electriccoops and won. The Delaware Coop got permission from the NRECA to render Willie in their likeness. I was then asked by the board to carve Willie. It was a very challenging project that required developing some new skills besides chainsaw carving. I need to learn to turn on a lathe and who better to teach me than my dad! He is a lifetime wood turner and it was so cool to be able to do this project with him. Thanks again to all members of DEC for allowing me to create this piece, especially Chelsea Wootten who initially contacted me. #williewiredhand

To the lineworkers, utility crews, tree crews, damage prevention professionals, dispatchers, contractors and everyone working behind the scenes to restore what the storm took down — thank you.
Long hours. Dangerous conditions. Work most people will never see.

This is who we mean when we say: The People Behind the Lines.

He ran 50 marathons, raised over $1,000,000 for local kids, rebuilt multiple cooperatives, and led 900+ electric co-ops serving 42 million Americans as President of the NRECA
And somehow, that's only the beginning of his story.

In this episode, Tony Anderson talks about the small-town beginnings that shaped him, the marathon journey that became a mission, the moment that sparked the Cooperative Family Fund , and what it takes to lead with grit, humility, and purpose when the stakes are highest.

Safe to say I have a whole new appreciation for “Duke’s Nukes.” ☢️⚡

One of the coolest experiences I’ve had since joining Union Power five years ago was getting to tour @Duke Energy’s Catawba Nuclear Station this past Tuesday through @North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives (NCEMC) and the @Kenan Fellows Program.

Not many people get the opportunity to step inside a nuclear power plant, so it was an experience I won’t forget. Seeing the technology, the people behind the operation, and the incredible attention to safety gave me a whole new appreciation for what it takes to keep the lights on.

It’s also a great reminder of just how important nuclear energy is. It’s one of our cleanest, most reliable sources of electricity and will continue to play a critical role as our energy needs grow.

A huge thank you to @Duke Energy, @North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives (NCEMC), and the @Kenan Fellows Program for making this incredible experience possible.
