A Reel is enough for the wise!

The job market is brutal.

By the way, I can’t believe I’ve finally started referring to Twitter as X 🙈🤦‍♂️

There’s a difference between managing your workload and deliberately slowing things down just to have something to say in the next meeting.

Do your work well. Communicate your capacity. Ask for more responsibility when you have room. And don’t be afraid to finish things early.

Your career should be built around creating value, not creating the appearance of being busy.

What’s the wildest workplace mindset you’ve encountered?

Your career can improve without you changing jobs.

Sometimes, the biggest difference comes from becoming better at the job you’re already doing.

These are 5 small habits I’ve found incredibly useful in my career.

Which one of these habits are you starting soon? 👇🏾

As Nigerians, we know how to hustle.

We grew up believing that if you work hard enough, stay busy enough and keep pushing, eventually everything will work out.

But here is something I have learnt: Being busy all the time is not proof that you are living a purposeful life.

You can be extremely busy and still be going nowhere. You can have a great job and still be building a life you don’t actually enjoy.

You can be constantly available to everyone at work while becoming unavailable to yourself and the people who matter most. Look at our British colleagues for instance, they don’t ever miss their annual holidays which they always book several months ahead - to get some time off work.

Relocating to the UK or any other country was never supposed to be about simply surviving another 9-5.

It should also be about creating a life that gives you time to live, grow, contribute, enjoy your family and become the person you came here hoping to become.

Don’t let the pressure to succeed turn your entire life into work. Work hard, yes. But work with purpose.

Because the goal isn’t to look busy. The goal is to build a life that is worth all the hard work.

Sometimes, the opportunity you’re scared to take is the one your career needs.

Don’t let guilt, loyalty, or fear of disappointing your boss make career decisions for you.

Your career is your responsibility. Choose accordingly.

Your 9–5 might be funding your life and building wealth for you today. But do you own a 5–9 building the life you want tomorrow?

What are you building after work?

If I had to find a mentor from scratch today, I wouldn’t start by asking someone, “Will you be my mentor?” 😂

I’d start by figuring out exactly what I need help with.

Then I’d find people who are already where I want to be, learn from their work, engage with their content, attend events, build genuine relationships and eventually make a specific ask.

And here’s the thing: your mentor doesn’t have to be a big-name executive. Sometimes, the best person to learn from is simply someone who is 3–4 steps ahead of you.

Don’t just look for a mentor. Look for people you can learn from.

Save this and share with someone on your TL👊🏾

You can be good at your job and still communicate like you need permission to be there.

Sometimes, it’s not your experience that makes you look junior. It’s the small things you say:

“Sorry to bother you…”

“I’ll try…”

“I’ve been so busy…”

“I think maybe we could…”

“Just following up…”

None of these phrases automatically make you junior. But when they become your default way of communicating, they can quietly undermine your confidence and credibility.

The goal isn’t to sound overly confident or start talking like a corporate robot. It’s to communicate with clarity, ownership and confidence.

Because being senior isn’t just about what you know. It’s also about how you show up.

Which one of these phrases have you caught yourself using? 👀

Save this for your next work email or meeting, and send it to someone who needs to see it.

If I had to move to the UK today and find a tech job from scratch, I wouldn’t start by applying to 100 jobs.

I’d start by understanding the market.

Then I’d focus on translating my international experience into language UK employers understand, building my network, targeting the right companies and tailoring my applications.

And most importantly, I wouldn’t assume that moving countries means starting your career from zero.

Your international experience has value. I have made several carousel contents about this. Please check my page.

If you’re an immigrant trying to build your career in the UK, save this Reel and send it to someone who needs to hear it. 🇬🇧
