With just over two months left in the year, I’m jumping on the 10 Before the End trend! These are ten books I’m hoping to read before we ring in 2027. A mix of genres, new releases and backlist titles. I’m a mood reader through and through, so we’ll see how well I stick to this list!

1. Under Story by Chloe Benjamin

Fishbone Cinderella by @elimpix ✨
[Book review]

As expected from one of my auto-buy authors, this book was a major hit! From the characters to the plot and story, everything was so carefully written and with so much love, there were obviously magical and fantasy elements in this book, but my favourite parts were the possible underlying real stories of Lim’s own family, their pain and emotional burdens from years of occupation, immigration, and loneliness. Despite, or perhaps because of the magical parts, the human conditions were all the more prominent. The family bonding in the end and self sacrifice reminded me of my own relationship with my mother and she with my grandmother, and it just hit so close to my heart in the best way possible.

In conclusion Fishbone Cinderella deserves a dazzling 5 stars from me ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

La promesse du dragon

Shiori est emmenée par Seryu, le jeune dragon, au fond de la mer de Taijin.
Ensemble, ils rejoignent la cité de Ai'long. Shiori doit remettre la perle au Roi Dragon. Mais Shiori a fait une promesse à sa belle-mère, rendre la pierre à son propriétaire d'origine.
Notre jeune héroïne va devoir faire preuve d'inventivité pour se sortir de ce bourbier...

Une suite tout aussi addictive que le premier tome. Beaucoup plus d'actions et d'émotions dans ce second et dernier tome. Une très belle aventure auprès de Shiori qui ne cesse de gagner en maturité et en sagesse. La plume de l'auteure est délicieuse de la première à la dernière page.

Definitely more action packed and more vivid. I like the idea a lot and the plot twists at the last few chapters were nice. The ending hurt a lot. I definitely feel like it was a good idea reading this AFTER SCC duology.

📖 Chronique lecture - Une éclatante malédiction d’Elizabeth Lim

Sacrifiée par son père à une sorcière, Channi porte désormais une peau de serpent qui effraie les villageois. Rejetée et maltraitée, elle ne peut compter que sur sa sœur Vanna, la seule à voir au-delà de son apparence. Mais lorsque le danger menace cette dernière, Channi est prête à tout pour la sauver.

🐍 Une héroïne qui m’a beaucoup touchée
J’ai immédiatement ressenti de l’empathie pour Channi. Courageuse, combative et un peu impulsive, elle a grandi dans un monde qui lui a constamment fait comprendre qu’elle ne valait rien. Pourtant, elle continue d’avancer, animée par une seule chose : son amour pour sa sœur.
Et ce lien est clairement le coeur du roman. Alors que tout le monde rejette Channi, Vanna ne la considère jamais comme un monstre. Cette sororité, faite d’amour, de loyauté et de sacrifices, m’a énormément touchée.🥹

✨ Un conte sombre et dépaysant
L’autrice nous entraîne dans un univers inspiré des légendes d’Asie, entre magie, malédictions, dragons et rois cruels. L’atmosphère est immersive, l’intrigue pleine de rebondissements et la lecture très fluide. J’ai adoré voir Channi évoluer au fil de ses épreuves, apprendre de ses erreurs et comprendre que sa détermination ne suffit pas toujours à protéger ceux qu’elle aime.

💫 Mon petit bémol ? J’aurais aimé que certains personnages, notamment Vanna, soient davantage développés. La romance m’a également moins convaincue, car j’ai trouvé que la force de l’histoire résidait surtout dans le lien entre les deux sœurs.

Une histoire qui rappelle que l’apparence ne définit ni la valeur d’une personne, ni sa capacité à aimer 🫶🏻

Pour info, le roman est un préquel de la duologie Six Couronnes Écarlates, mais peut totalement se lire indépendamment. Je n’ai personnellement lu que le tome 1 de celle-ci.

I’m just a girl, standing in front of the World Wide Web, begging the people to read the books I like. Is that so much to ask? Why else am I constantly online?

If you answered “you’re constantly online to start drama and to be grumbly about big releases everyone else is excited for and to be a mosquito in the ear of publishers” can you shut up? It was rhetorical.

The answer to why I’m always online is to get you all to read the books I love! Duh. And to mine threads for sht talking, but only I get to say that.

So here is a little reading guide of the books I’m begging you to read. We’ve got fantasy book recommendations, historical romance book recs, Romantasy and monster and fantasy romance, contemporary romance, and then whatever A Good Person falls into (besides my favorite book).

Look, I’m also not just begging you to read books. I’m also begging myself to get off my phone and read my TBR. How magnanimous.

And then we have a public service announcement that if you consider yourself my friend you are now in the warning period. You have 10 days left to finish Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb or our friendship is over. Just kidding 🤣 But our Realm of the Elderlings buddy read is in full swing, and we are having a blast.
