ELISA DORE was our 2026 GA NMWA Distinguished Fellow. Based in ATL, Elisa was selected for a two week residency at Hambidge this summer — unfettered creative time in the beautiful North GA mountains. Here, we share her reflection on the experience:

“Hambidge came at a time of transition in my life and practice. I had recently graduated from an MFA program and I was figuring out how to make work on new terms - a new work schedule, a new studio, and no access to the facilities I was previously using to make my work. I came to Hambidge with the goal of quieting the input from outside sources, and focusing on making work with no judgement and no incentive to show it to anyone. It was a challenge at first, but the quiet of the environment, along with the feeling of being far away from “real” life, allowed me to recenter. I allowed myself to rest when I felt the need and work when I felt the need. Having a place to work without expectations was such a gift to my practice for those two weeks. I followed my curiosity, and what came of it was unexpected and exciting. I am grateful beyond words to have spent two weeks at Hambidge, and to GA NMWA for making it happen.”

The piece Elisa created for this year’s SITE (last 2 slides) was started while she was in the Fisher Cabin. Among other projects, her work will be included in the upcoming MOCA GA Working Artist Project Apprentice Show, on view from Nov 7 2026 - Jan 9 2027.

Please follow @elisa.dore and consider supporting the @hambidgecenter and their dedication on behalf of working artists. This partnership is also made possible by our wonderful @gawomeninthearts members. Thank you.

It’s been such a pleasure working with this extraordinary group of Atlanta artists to bring the first NowhereATL to life: Aineki Traverso, Ben Steele, Carter Flachbarth, Daniel Byrd, Dustin Emory, Elisa Dore, Ezekiel Robinson, Gerald Lovell, Harrison Wayne, Isaac Mehki, Jurell Cayetano, Kathryn Kampovsky, Kole Nichols, Marie Munk, Rosa Duffy, Sergio Suarez, Shahnaz Nia, Shawn Campbell and Stephen Shon.

More than 400 guests joined us on opening night. Thank you to everyone who came out to support the artists and this new platform.

NowhereATL will move forward as a nonprofit, creating unique settings where emerging and established Atlanta artists can exhibit and sell their work, connect with collectors and engage with the broader art community.

Join us Wednesday, October 14, from 6–9 pm for a closing viewing (not a party like the opening). 73 Clifton St NE. It is an opportunity for collectors, fellow artists and anyone interested in the work to spend time with the exhibition and talk with the artists before it comes down.

At SITE on October 3rd, see Puerta de Tierra by Elisa Dore (@elisa.dore).

Puerta de Tierra is a sculptural installation composed of a fabricated steel window frame and a wheat-pasted woodcut. The frame will fit into an existing window space at Goat Farm, with a portion of it on a hinge so viewers can open it to reveal a piece of the image behind it. The steel frame references the ornamental ironwork found in windows and doors across the Caribbean and American South.

Puerta de Tierra is an exploration into the ways that beauty and protection can be interconnected. The work considers how the things we find most beautiful are often those built to keep something safe, and how the act of protecting something is, in itself, a form of devotion.

Just back from the @gawomeninthearts board retreat at the beautiful @hambidgecenter in North Georgia. A couple days filled with thoughtful conversations and exciting ideas for the future of the organization, along with incredible food, a book exchange, a studio visit with @elisa.dore, and plenty of fun.

Feeling very grateful to be part of such an inspiring group of women.
