Your opponent is telling you where to attack! 🎯 ⭐️ When they get big in the middle, attack down the line. The moment they cheat over and crowd the middle, the line opens up — punish it before they can recover back. ⭐️ When they're sitting backhand, go crossbody at their opposite side hip. They're parked on the backhand, so the ball at the far hip jams them up — no room to swing and nowhere to go with it. ⭐️ When they start helping middle, roll the crosscourt dink winner. Snap or whip? 🔥 ⭐️ Snap when your opponents are coming in behind the ball! You’ll get a little less spin, but the shorter motion helps you get ready faster for the next shot. ⭐️ Whip when your opponents are farther back! This gives you more spin and power, but the bigger motion takes a little more time to recover from. ⭐️ You want BOTH of these shots in your game! One isn’t better than the other. Become a more consistent dinker! ⭐️ The biggest reason players miss their backhand dink is too much wrist! We want to use our arm to push through the ball rather than flicking our wrist. ⭐️ The second one many players don’t think about is footwork! If you’re not getting behind the ball when hitting your roll dink, you’re making the shot so much harder than it needs to be. ⭐️ Once you’re doing these two things well, it’s about repeating that same motion as many times in a row as you can. When do you use each speedup? 🔥 ⭐️ Snap: this is your go to for combos! When your opponents are at the net, use this speedup so you can get ready for the next ball. At the highest level, that ball is coming back FAST! ⭐️ Loop swing: use this speedup when your opponents are off the line or transitioning through the midcourt. In either situation, you have more space and time to work with! ⭐️ The loop gives you more spin and power, but it takes more time to swing and recover. The more time you have, the more you can use it. Think about letting the ball stay on your paddle face a little longer instead of having it pop off so quickly. Which counter is correct? 👊 ⭐️ Two hands: This is key when the ball is wide to your backhand! One hand can give you all sorts of issues, but adding that second hand makes this ball so much easier to handle! ⭐️ One handed backhand: This is your go to body counter! You can generate effortless power without getting jammed up like you might with a two hander! ⭐️ Chicken wing: When you get stuck, the chicken wing can bail you out! The key is to slice it. This lets you swing fast while keeping the ball in play and covering balls farther outside your body. Create space on dead balls! ⭐️ One of the biggest mistakes on a dead ball is not giving yourself enough space! You end up getting jammed and wasting a great opportunity to attack. ⭐️ Once you recognize the ball is going to be dead, take a step back and get set early. This gives you room to hold the ball and disguise your speedup! ⭐️ The hold gets your opponents guessing, while the space allows you to hit a better quality speedup. Apply pressure on your thirds! ⭐️ If your opponents are contacting your third shot between net height and knee height, follow it in! Make them concede the net instead of giving them space to roll the ball at your feet. ⭐️ One of the biggest issues I see is players waiting for the perfect drop. They end up hitting not one, not two, but sometimes three or more good shots before they move in! ⭐️ High-level players don’t wait for the perfect ball. They follow a good ball, move forward, and apply pressure. Short hop to the right spot! ⭐️ When you short hop down the line, you risk getting Erned! If you go middle, the ball has to stay low. Leave it up to their forehand and you’re in trouble! ⭐️ My favorite target is crosscourt, between their feet! You’re going over the lower part of the net and giving them fewer options to attack you. ⭐️ I love the crosscourt short hop, but don’t go too wide! Left side combo! ⭐️ When I get a dead ball to my backhand, this is my go to combo! ⭐️ Think of the player in front of me as a wall. If I attack across their body, the ball will almost certainly come back to my forehand! So I attack, anticipate, and open up for the next ball! ⭐️ The key is knowing your combo while they’re still covering multiple options!
