TALKING ABOUT DIABETES EVENT #TAD2026
Aisling, Gráinne & Jean from Thriveabetes attended #TAD2026 Talking About Diabetes event in London on July 11.

TADTalks is a day dedicated to hearing stories from people living with type 1 diabetes and filled with reconnecting with old friends, making many new ones and a thoroughly fun day.

There was so much to share from this event that we have had to do it in 3 posts.

HERE IS OUR TAD2026 RECAP POST #1

Thank you so much to the TAD organising team of Dr Reza Zaidi, Kamil Armacky, Ros Gray, Adrian Long and Ellie Huckle.

The speakers included:

📢Malveena Ramchandani — THREE CITIES, ONE LIFE WITH TYPE 1

Living with type 1 diabetes in different countries: Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bangalore, India, and London, UK, Malveena’s story was about the interplay between clinical care and lived experience, and why both are essential.

Quote #1 of the day: “Peer support elevated my care”

In DUBAI: my doctor’s taught me how to take charge and stay alive. Malveena’s doctor told her “You are the Pilot, I’m here to help you navigate” 💕

In BANGALORE: My diabesties (peer support) taught me how to live.

In LONDON: I learned that Neither can replace the other, but together they’re groundbreaking.

📢Manisha Vadgama Wareham — Her experience of type 1 diabetes and her journey to motherhood.

Her theme was based on conversations she would like to have with her younger self, her late Mum, her hypos, diabetes tech, her doctors & nurses and her little boy.

TAD 2026, London. We did it. 💙

We as the TAD team were so excited to be back in London for TAD 2026 after hosting it in Liverpool for two years. TAD is one of the most meaningful projects I’m proud to be involved in. Inspired by TED Talks — it’s where the diabetes community meets. @talkingaboutdiabetes

At #TAD2026 we welcomed:

⚔️ Samantha Alleyne @saminthecity79 ,the first female and first diabetic Stormtrooper in the Star Wars franchise, talking about her type 1 diabetes
✈️ Douglas Cairns, an RAF pilot grounded by his diagnosis who went on to fly round the world anyway
🩺 Kaye Sparrow, a doctor who’s been on both sides of the stethoscope since she was nine years old
💙 Karen Addington MBE, a @breakthrought1duk CEO who’s lead the charity since 2005
👨‍⚕️ Professor Partha Kar OBE @nhssugardoc one of the most influential names in NHS diabetes care, in conversation on our sofa
🎤 Nina Wadia OBE @nina.wadia and drummer Aidan Mirza @aidan.mirza.music joining us for a sofa chat that had the whole room hooked
📍 Malveena Ramchandani opening the day on how postcode can shape a diagnosis
🤱 Manisha Vadgama Wareham sharing her journey through a T1D pregnancy
👩‍⚕️ Amanda, Beth and Tamsin from @dsnforumuk , championing the nurses who hold this community together

And somewhere in between all of that, this room — this community — we smashed our £2.5K fundraising goal for @lifeforachild!

That’s the bit that gets me most, if I’m honest. TAD has never been about who’s on the stage. By the community, for the community. Not a tagline — just what actually happened yesterday.

All talks were recorded and will be posted on YouTube in weeks to come so please subscribe!

Thank you to everyone who joined! Kamil
