What a DAY. 😅 It was a lonnnggg one to and from Grand Rapids today in a rental van that was basically falling apart and livin’ on a prayer, but we did it - 1 Girl Revolution’s The Power of Her Art Prize exhibit is officially set up at Rebel Nell’s Grand Rapids store! Let’s goooo girls!

More to come on all of this, but right now I am just SO excited for you all to see these incredible photos and learn about the incredible women and initiatives behind them.

A huge thank you to my dear sistafriend Jasmine Sumlin, the insanely talented photographer behind most of the photos in this exhibit. Jasmine, your eye and your heart made this exhibit come to life. Thank you for believing in this project and for bringing this beauty into the world. 📸

And to my dear sistafriend MJ Nowak - thank you for spending your entire day today in a shotty van, driving to Grand Rapids and back with me, and helping set up this exhibit. I could not have done this without you.

And to my husband Joe - thank you for always believing in this dream, and for helping me lug those massive 8ft metal pillars out of our garage and loading them up for the long trek. You always believe in whatever crazy dream I come up with and I wouldn’t be able to do any of this without you and your love and support. Thank you!

One woman can be a revolution. But it takes a village to ignite the revolutionary fire!!! 🤍

Now it’s your turn. If you can make the trek, head to Rebel Nell’s Grand Rapids store from September 18th-October 3rd, and PLEASE VOTE for 1 Girl Revolution’s exhibit! 🤍

✨ THROWBACK ✨ to a really powerful story shared on The 1 Girl Revolution Podcast.

Years ago, Deb Ellinger - founder of Elli’s House - met a woman on the streets of Detroit. She was one of the very first women Deb ever talked to during street outreach. Deb told her: “I’m going to start keeping notes about who you are and what you’re doing.”

For years, Deb and the Elli’s House team kept showing up. Off and on. Again and again.

Until the day she said: “I’m done. I don’t want this life anymore.” Today? She is THRIVING. 🙌 And she and Deb still keep in touch.

Deb says Elli’s House was only “a real small part” of her story — but that’s the whole point. As Deb reminds us:
“We have the power to change our lives and get out of bad situations… but we just need somebody to believe in us and say, ‘Hey, I’m here.’”

Never underestimate the power of simply showing up for someone.

We’re so grateful to our incredible task force members and all our wonderful partners who helped make today’s Stomping Out Human Trafficking event a great success!

Human trafficking is rampant in our world and it’s not talked about enough... and sometimes women and girls get pulled into trafficking because they don’t trust their gut and/or don’t know what to look for....

🎙️ “I just wanted a pair of tennis shoes.” That’s the reason a 15-year-old girl gave Deb Ellinger for running away from home. On The 1 Girl Revolution Podcast, Deb - founder of Elli’s House - explains that trafficking can start out as a simple want that a predator dangles in front of a girl: shoes, purses, attention, money. There was a lot going on at this girl’s house, and she was an easy target for predators.

Deb talks to girls all the time about trafficking and what it actually looks like. Some have been approached to work at a strip club or date someone, offered the same things - shoes, purses, everything that made it look good. But when it happens, they remember Deb’s words and are able to say “no” and get out of the situation.

Elli’s House is helping women get out of trafficking situations and they are working to protect women and girls from falling into a trafficking situation. The outreach that Elli’s House does is transforming the world.
