“Every ranger has a family.” 💚

Today, on the 20th World Ranger Day, we’re sharing a piece of Rhino Man we’ve never released before: Anton Mzimba going home.

Thirty days in the bush. Weeks away from the children he loved. “I blame no one,” he says. “That is my job that I chose.” And when he walks through that door, you see everything the job costs and everything it protects, all at once.

This is what World Ranger Day is really about. Behind every ranger on patrol today, in every country, there is a family counting days. They serve too.

Anton was killed at his home in July 2022, four years ago this week. He gave everything for his family, his team, and the wild places he believed were worth it. Rest easy, my friend. Your family, all of it, the one at home and the one in green, carries you with them.

🎬 Watch Anton’s full story. Rhino Man is streaming on Apple TV, Amazon Prime, Google Play, YouTube, and Vimeo on Demand. Watch it this weekend with your family. rhinomanthemovie.org. Links in bio.

Four years ago today, we lost Anton Mzimba.

He was killed at his home in the evening, after months of threats, because he refused to stop protecting the wild places he loved. Four years later, no one has been brought to justice.

Anton is the heart of Rhino Man. Over eight years of filming, our cameras captured what everyone who met him already knew. He was one of the finest rangers Africa has ever produced, and he carried one of the world’s most dangerous jobs with warmth, humor, and hope. The world knew him as a ranger. His family knew him as the man who came home from days in the bush and taught his children the name of every tree.

This year, his son Jafet shared a memory with us. When he told his father he wanted to follow him into this work, Anton froze. He said the job was too dangerous. But in the end he gave his blessing: “Maybe you are the one who will follow my steps. I am proud of you, son.”

Jafet is training as a conservationist right now. Anton’s dream did not die with him. It got up and kept walking.

“Honoring rangers has to mean more than gratitude,” says director John Jurko II, who spent those years filming at Anton’s side. “It has to mean justice. We will not let Anton’s name fade.”

Anton once said that saving the rhino was like saving himself, his life, and the life of his children’s children. He gave everything for that belief. The least we can do is keep it alive.

🕯️ Today, on his anniversary, watch his story. Rhino Man is streaming on Apple TV, Amazon Prime, and Google Play. Watch it in his memory. Share it with someone who needs to know his name.
