What a pleasant surprise it was on Friday, September 25, to find Oren Bloedow performing a solo guitar set as the opening act for And Also The Trees. He recalled playing his very first concert with Jennifer Charles and their band, The Elysian Fields, in this very same Rotonde at the Botanique in Brussels "exactly thirty years ago." #orenbloedow

In a summer of many celebrations commemorating Allen Ginsberg’s Centenary, the live shows at Little Island, New York City, staged between September 2nd and 6th, might have represented the most ambitious programme of all—thanks to Artifacts being commissioned by The Allen Ginsberg Estate.

Convened in an amphitheater off Manhattan’s 14th St with a magnificent view over the Hudson River, the event combined poetry with music in multiple crossovers. Anne Waldman, Laurie Anderson and Rufus Wainwright were among those participating.

Present was Artifacts founder Steven Watson. He spoke exclusively to Rock and the Beat Generation about this special Ginsberg occasion, the poetic and musical highlights of the week and the documentary work that might emerge from the footage captured. Read at the link in our bio.

From September 2- 6th we had the pleasure to be part of the Allen Ginsberg centennial at Little Island, under the direction of our dear Thomas Bartlett (@tingalayo )
It was a real New York kind of week! Had the pleasure to meet Ginsberg twice- once in late 80’s after one of his readings, then early 90s when Oren and I were playing a jazz set at George Plimpton’s party. Ginsburg was a delight, and we talked about Paris, Bessie Smith… Hope his spirit was conjured. Here are a few glimpses from stage and behind the scenes. Sorry not to have photos of everyone! Most are tagged in photos, but missing are @mxviv @rufuswainwright @alsoanoperasinger @taylormacnyc @mobrowne @michaelcunningham_grig @ginagershon @terrancehayes @winokurz @allenginsbergofficial @ellahunt @rachelzegler @eddiestern @dschnirman
