Mary Poirier [she/they] is a writer from Hamilton, Ontario. Their writing is inspired by their interactions as a hard-of-hearing, lesbian, and Filipino artist. She has an advanced diploma in Fashion Arts from Seneca College. She is currently working on her debut novel. Her poetry has been published in Queer Toronto Literary Magazine and Fifth Wheel Press. She loves her dog Mavis. She is an aesthetician by day and a writer by night.

Leanne Charette (she/her) has cerebral palsy and writes poetry grounded in her experience as a disabled adoptee and mother. Her work has been published by Eavesdrop, PRISM International, Vallum Magazine, and more. She lives in Kitchener, Ontario with her husband and twin sons.

Andrew Heule (he/him) is a limb-different amputee, musician, performer, educator, and emerging writer whose work explores radical accessibility with care and access needs front and centre.

Em Cussen is a radically tender writer, an advocate for the Oxford comma, and thinks silly socks are superior. Queer, genderfluid, and autistic – Em is a super feeler, wish chip seeker, and recovering people pleaser.

Our Shame launch is only days away! Here are some of the lovely poets and storytellers you’ll hear on Tuesday (ticket link in bio)

Sarah Vikken (@sarahvixie) is a fat, trans/queer, chronically ill, and disabled poet. They started writing poetry at a young age, but it wasn't until they reached their 30s that they found their voice and style. Poetry (alongside singing and music) is their medium of choice, but they also dabble in digital art and illustration. Sarah is working to publish a collection of poems, with the goal of completing their written anthology by the end of 2024.

Em Cussen (she/they) (@emjeancussen) is a Toronto-based queer writer, who attempts to challenge binary definitions and perspectives on topics including, but not limited to, mental health, gender identity and equality, sexuality, and intimacy. She is an advocate for the Oxford comma, works in the advertising industry, and is a huge fan of Rebecca Black.

Peta Roxy Brady (@petaroxywrites) is an Australian writer and poet. Her first poetry collection. HHE TOLD ME HE LOVED ME. I NEVER SPOKE TO HIM AGAIN. was independently published in April 2021 and is available on Amazon. Peta's poetry has also been featured in Liminality by Postall, and the 2022 Summer Anthology by Sunday Mornings At The River, Flowers Grow In Graveyards Too. Her poems are told as tiny life stories, exploring a personal yet relatable journey through mental health challenges, estranged relationships, love, loss, and all the other bits that make us human. Her words are laced with nostalgia and longing for what once was, and all that's still to come.

Kiera Obbard (@kieraobbard) is a poet and Ph.D. Candidate in The School of English and Theatre Studies at the University of Guelph, studying the conditions that have enabled the success of social media poetry in Canada. Her poetry has been featured in Petal Journal, Sad Girls Club Lit, as part of the Future Horizons project, and in Chayn’s Creative Hope virtual exhibition.
