@puravidamiami being in the @shopdadeland mall is truly a lifesaver on work days!!! had to grab the avocado toast for lunch on delicious gluten free bread as well as a latte with almond milk.

surprise! back at pura vida again to get their “welcome to Miami” smoothie to re-energize me through my work day!

Dropped into @thecocinitamiami for the first time - a local vegan spot serving South American/Venezuelan food. Tried their yuca fries as well as a nacho inspired dish + I still think about this food two months later, 100% would recommend! The Cocinita, I promise I’ll be back!!

Hopped off my plane and headed straight to South Beach to get @mistero1pizza 🍕 I may have had it last time I was in town but that wasn’t going to stop me! I’m a sucker for a yummy pizza and they have great gluten free crust and vegan cheese and a chili oil that’s to DIE FOR. My mailbox is open if you want to send me some of that chili oil thx!!!

Before my flight out, stopped at @ojodeagua.usa after a recommendation from one of the installation team members I worked with. I grabbed a salad with tofu and while it was good - I found that they did not have gluten free options well labeled. I had mentioned my food allergies as one does, but didn’t feel super reassured or comfortable based on the tools and resources given to me. Was this a great salad? Totally. Would I revisit this spot as someone with food allergies? Probably not. Would I recommend it to someone who is looking for yummy and fresh food and a good vibe in Miami? For sure.

Before I post about the yummy food I ate in NYC last week (spoiler alert!!) we’ve got to talk about the food I ate in Dallas a few weeks ago! This was my first time in Texas and even though everyone was trying to give me barbecue recommendations, I found some good spots!!!

1-3: @reveriebakeshop - an all vegan bakery with a ton of gf options!!! such amazing food and kind employees - they were jealous of the fact that I live in Portland, a vegan Mecca (and I can’t blame them)!
4-5: @kathairestaurant - the vibes were as good as the food!
6: @mendocinofarms - a sandwich place that I can actually eat at!?! sign me up all day long, that sandwich was one of the best I’ve gotten at a restaurant in a long while.
7: @bernibeancoffee - I mean, doesn’t this cutie coffee just speak for itself??
8: @sweetgreen - an Emily classic when I’m in a city with one. I would do a lot of things to get my hand on a guacamole greens (iykyk)

📍 eating in PITTSBURGH

Anytime I’m about to travel, I always do a ton of digging before I go. I’m talking Reddit digging, social media posts + videos, online articles, etc. I make a massive list and then go one by one and look up the menu to weed out spots that maybe have closed since the recommendation was posted, or to remove spots that maybe are great for one of my dietary restrictions but not all. About a decade ago, I lived in Western PA, not far from PGH, but that was pre-diagnosis so I can basically throw out any place I think I may know!

1. @roundcornercantina was the GOAT - the bartender recommended these fried mushroom tacos and they were the right decision. The whole spot is GF and their vegetarian and vegan options are well labeled. This place I found from @celiacsafepgh ‘s page and it was definitely the right choice!

2. @shadobeni412 is an all-vegan Trinidadian brunch spot - I tried their mushroom fritters and they were incredible! I wasn’t expecting to get to make it to this spot due to my work schedule, but ended up squeezing it in one day and it was so worth it! They didn’t have a ton of gf options - but my server was gluten free and definitely did right by me with this recommendation.

3. Stopped by @burgatorybar by my hotel to snag a vegan milkshake! I’ve eaten burgers there before and they have a well-labeled menu with a ton of gf and vegan options but I’ve never tried their vegan milkshake until now! They make the whipped cream in house and I legitimately called my bartender over to double check it was really vegan.

4. I didn’t get the chance to try @joeandthejuice while I was in Miami, so imagine the excitement when I found one at the Pittsburgh airport!!! The thrill of getting to eat a sandwich (and a good one!) is unmatched.

5/6. One of the hardest things about traveling for work (with that work often happening in malls) is it can be virtually impossible for me to eat. Finding spots like @hellobistro (a previous fave of mine) and @greenleafsbananas is truly a treat.

What spots should I check out the next time I’m in PGH??

went to Miami, FL on a work trip last week and I was in a salad + pizza mood I guess!!

was thrilled to finally try @puravidamiami (ended up having it as our breakfast every day at work) and while disappointingly I couldn’t eat their falafel as it was not gluten free, they were incredibly communicative about helping me find good yummy options for me.

pizza from @mistero1pizza + @craft_miami hit each time! CRAFT’s menu didn’t have anything about gf crust listed, but upon speaking to them they filled me in on their full gf crust options as well as their vegan cheese!

Best way to wrap up the food was with a late night delivery of @sweetgreen to my hotel! One day they’ll bring a location to Portland, but until then I’ll hunt them down in every city I can.

So, what do we want to see next!? I’ve got a backlog of food from Vancouver BC, Albuquerque NM, Orlando FL, and more that I’m ready to share!!!

Celebrating one of our badass community members today, @emgallfran 💜 In her own words, here is what StarCycle has meant to her. 🌟

“I did that - 100 freaking times!
Over a decade ago, my experience with disordered eating and disordered exercise had created an unhealthy relationship with being active and an inability to find a form of exercise that I truly loved for what it was, and not for what it might accomplish for me. When I stumbled into StarCycle Portland’s doors 6 years ago (!), I slowly discovered the idea that working out doesn’t have to be about stats and scores, it can just be about leaving better than you were when you showed up. Over the last year, I’ve really locked in and come to understand how privileged I am to be able to move my body, to have space in my life to be able to come here. I haven’t always had the room, physically or mentally or financially, but being here now has been one of the best things I could’ve ever done for myself. To some, 100 classes is nothing - but to me, it’s everything and it’s just the start. 🫶🏼”
