Every World Cancer Day, I share this photo of my happy, healthy family circa 1982.

This picture makes me so sad because of what we didn’t know was coming.

Little did my parents know that they, and all three of their daughters, would be diagnosed with different cancers — and that their youngest would be gone at just 43. 💔

Now that I’m a parent to three children of my own, it’s hard to even imagine what that must have felt like for them. I deeply admire their strength — and the strength of every survivor, every fighter, and every caregiver everywhere.

The hardest part of this story is that it isn’t unique.

The community where I grew up has been deeply affected — countless cancer cases, rare diseases, and so much illness.

My sister fought fiercely for justice for our hometown, and we are proud to carry that fight forward in her name.

On February 28, the Otsego Story Project website will go live with a collection of stories from families like ours…place to be seen, heard, and remembered. Mary would be so proud.

Years ago, I made a promise — to champion healthy choices and prevention whenever possible, and to keep reminding people to schedule routine exams and perform monthly self-checks. Early awareness matters.

And alongside my family and an incredible team, we also promise this:

We will continue pushing for answers.
We will continue demanding accountability.
And we will continue fighting for justice for our little hometown.

Always. 🤍

What a season of celebrating with loved ones near and far 🎄I’m so thankful for my amazing family and friends and all the memories we cherish. Here’s a little recap of Christmas and our first trip to Aruba. It really is “one happy island”🌺
