If you had asked us in our first year of marriage how things were going, we would have said, “Great!” But the truth would have been that it was quite literally hell.

Bringing unprocessed hurt and baggage into our marriage didn’t happen on purpose. Most of our issues didn’t reveal themselves until we were in the safety of a covenant relationship.

12 years later, after a ton of deep inner work, a lot of support from friends and family, with help from our counselor, and the most help from our Divine Counselor, we can honestly say: this is all a gift.

Don’t give up.

There are some songs you can sing just with the voices and it’s just as meaningful. Thanks @philwickham @christomlin @jennjohnson20

Isaac and I recently felt convicted about the way we were using our phones at night.

The author of Hebrews calls married couples to faithfulness—to honor the covenant we’ve made and remain devoted to one another.

“Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled…”
— Hebrews 13:4

Most of us would never imagine being unfaithful to our spouse through an affair.

But what if the threat to intimacy isn’t always another person?

What if, sometimes, it’s what we continually give our attention to?

How many of us are lying in bed next to the person we love most, but scrolling, watching, consuming instead of connecting?

So here’s a little encouragement for married couples:

Let your spouse be your unwind at the end of the day.

Put the phone down. Look at each other. Talk. Laugh. Pray. Be present.

Because giving your attention to one another will bear fruit in your marriage that your phone never could.

Honor the marriage. Protect the bed. Choose each other.
