5 Things I Tell Myself on EVERY Run.

📈 Half Marathon Training Edition 📈

#running #runningcommunity #motivation #halfmarathon #halfmarathontraining

1. I’m not my race day self yet, and that’s totally ok.

I personally find training for a race to be a bit intimidating and it becomes especially overwhelming when you’re constantly over analyzing the differences between where you are on a certain day and where you want to be on race day.
The training exists to help bridge that gap and progress isn’t linear. Focus on achieving daily goals instead of trying to take in an entire process at once.

2. No hero ball. I say this one A LOT. No need to risk my body’s ability to show up tomorrow by compromising it today.

This means keeping the pace easy on an easy run every when I have more in the tank. It means controlling my tempo/speed work instead of emptying the tank. It means knowing when (and being humble enough) to modify or even skip a run for the greater good and longevity of my body.

3. You’re never alone, even on the runs you go on by yourself.

Running doesn’t have to be a solo sport, and in the last year I’ve truly experienced how community has changed my running experience.
Even when I’m physically running alone, I know I have a community of friends, family, and now even on here that support me and cheer me on in my goals. That’s powerful.

4. It IS ok to take a break.

Like really, it’s not going to kill you. You truly can just stop in the middle of your run to take a picture, to pet a dog, because you’re tired or recovering from an injury, or really for any reason you want to.

Incredible use of free will.

5. Process > Perfection.

I’m a perfectionist and I tend to be pretty hard on myself if things don’t go to plan or if I’m not where I want to be at at a given time. I try to take those moments to remind myself what running really is about.
It’s about showing up for yourself. It’s about taking care of your health. It’s about challenging yourself to do something even though it’s difficult.

The only way you can lose is by not trying.
