Can a running hater become a marathoner? Apparently yes 🤗

If someone told me 2 years ago that I will run the NYC Marathon and had a time of my life I would laugh 😂 and here we are: 26.2m done ✅🏅 big shout out to my lovely friends and family who came out to cheer and sent supporting messages - I feel so fortunate to have you in my life 🥹 New Yorkers made it unforgettable with the energy so awesome no music was needed for the whole 42km! The snacks, drinks, and biofreeze were so helpful too 😃 big thanks to @whatchudointita for making me signup for my first half-marathon and go on with the 9+1 journey to start liking running and become a marathoner 🥰

If I can run a marathon, you can do whatever you dream off!! Even if it’s hard and you don’t really like the main process involved in it 😂 Can’t wait to do it again next year 🤩🏃‍♀️💨

ISSUE 5 ATTENTION IS LIVE!! 🧡🤍

Attention is one of our most valuable personal currencies. What we choose to focus on in our lives, is significant. Today, in our modern world, our attention is being vyed for by competitive, loud, and consuming sources. What we focus on is powerful and affects our consciousness. The more mindful we are about what earns our attention, the more effective we will be in grounding ourselves amongst the ceaseless clamor.

Here are just a few of 26 pieces featured in Issue 5 that we believe our well worth your precious attention:
    • Courtney Brothers' remarkable cover art commissioned especially for issue 5 of Symposeum.
    • Cleo Rohn shares a poem about deciphering birdsong into digestible phrases and speaks to the way we long to understand every conceivable part of the world, even the parts of it that we were never supposed to understand in the first place.
    • Silvia Caprioglio Panizza writes an essay that's an invites the reader to describe why it’s vital we use our attention, that we cherish it, grow it, and stay with it.
    • In Veronica Castro's short story, Chile Rellenos, a mother gives her son long-overdue attention by making him his favorite dinner of chiles rellenos, a traditional Mexican dish that is time-consuming and demanding of the cook’s attention up to the very end of the preparation.
    • Marissa Davis translates a
poem by French poet Stéphanie Ferrat from her work Skyside: Notes from a Studio about the physical goings-on within an artist's studio and the interior creative process, and how the natural world joins in.

My little table for my dear friend @madeline.goetz to celebrate her birthday in PA ♥️

Dinner by @skerry999 and I ✨

Dried 🍊 by me, foraged 🍃🌲 by @sweeney.ae. I asked Amy to go out and forage for greenery and pine cones and boy did she deliver.

We found the glasses and tea lights at good will the day before.

It's been 5 years since we were last together in Louisville watching horse races and going to parks; making it a great surprise to find out we were all in Tulsa on the same day to reunite today. It's why goodbyes should always just be for now #Tulsa

✨ISSUE 3 IS LIVE! ✨🌟 the theme for this issue is SEARCHING. The entire issue is on our website and can be ordered in print, which we highly recommend!

(We’ve done some some website development we are are proud of)

Here’s a bit about what you’ll find in ISSUE 3:

This issue, like all issues of Symposeum, is a product of connecting people, ideas, and stories through collaboration. In plays, poetry, prose, and photography, from fictional worlds to Walden Pond, we engage the topic of searching because it represents the first step in our collective response to the dire challenges of our day. When faced with a problem, even countless problems, we go searching for answers. We explore this theme both literally and abstractly.

In Home Is Where You Find It, Daniel Bennett meditates on reclaiming our “birthright of belonging...in estranged terrain at last with an open heart.”

Ahmed Hmeedat, a Palestinian artist, at “despite one’s circumstances or lack of materials, the impulse to create always seems to shine through.

In a captivating essay on the next frontier, Star Tours, Lauren Spohn considers what space tourism teaches about the sublime— “the scarcest and most plentiful resource on earth.”

South African animal tracker and storyteller Boyd Varty invites us into the wild to show us how finding meaning in life “takes the same courage that it takes to follow a lion in thick terrain.”

This issue also includes works on the subversive nature of cryptocurrency; the conflict-riddled relationship of information and truth; the comedy of paparazzi; dark matter; the Taoist art of wu wei; missing Dutch paintings; lessons from preschoolers; archaeological discovery; loss; immigration; identity.
