People don't necessarily need leaders who have all the answers. They need leaders who create enough stability, clarity and connection for people to think clearly, work well together and adapt over time.

Every day, leaders are asked to make decisions, sometimes without complete information, support others while managing their own uncertainty, and create workplaces that remain steady in an increasingly unpredictable world.

At the upcoming Medibank thought leadership webinar, hosted by Dr Lauren Burns PhD OAM OLY, Dr Emily Toner and Maria Ruberto will unpack practical, evidence-based strategies to help leaders create psychologically safe, human-centred workplaces where people can adapt, perform and thrive.

If these are the conversations you're having in your organisation, or if you're simply interested in building healthier, more human-centred workplaces, we'd love for you to join this free webinar.

This is the real secret of life -- to be completely engaged with what you are doing in the here and now. And instead of calling it work, realize it is play - Alan Watts

Play is essential to loosen our rough exterior. When we fall into play, we soften, we literally become lighter. A vital ingredient to our super serious life.

We'll be exploring ways to let go of the control and invite more play at our Winter Day Retreat next weekend.

Join us Saturday 27th from 9:30-4:30 @desaretreatjanjuc in the lushess coastal town of Jan Juc. We're play meets movement, psychology and deep rest.

We're so excited! 3 spots left 🤗 Link above 👆🏼

And then…she was 38. I’ll be honest, I would have preferred to have stayed 37 🤣 but —there’s a lot to be grateful for this year. More things than I can list. I feel more at peace, more on purpose, more supported, more inspired, more connected to my world, more myself and more clear than ever before. There may be more greys too — but — that’s OK. Getting older is a gift. I’m grateful for my friends and my family, for my home, for my work, for Australia and for our planet and Mother Nature, constantly reminding me what resilience and generosity look like — and just how much we still have left to protect. There is so much chaos in our world right now but there is also so much good—I refuse to give up hope for a better world. And I’m ready to fight for it with all the tools I have this year 📸✏️🌊💃🏼

When you’re calm, you see the bigger picture.

This isn’t mindset fluff it’s science.

So here’s your Monday reset from Emily Toner: Pause. Breathe. Then think again.

2025 | a smattering of precious, hard, beautiful moments from 2025 — a year filled with ups and downs. Documented extraordinary wildlife - brought to my knees by the LA fires - contributed photos to an LA print fundraiser - Cyclone Alfred hits our shores - I document our poor koalas and our smashed beaches in the aftermath - am onboarded to document the incredible work of @ifawglobal as we search and rescue a number of flood impacted koalas - I pivot my documentary to a solutions focused docu-series and begin filming (The Rising Wild, stay tuned!!)- we protest against deep sea mining - I walk a few families of ducklings across the highway - launch a storytelling campaign for Gaza - launch @theheartatlas Collective - save a few ladybugs - see some spectacular sunsets and get to spend time with some very lovely people including my inspired cohort of SE QLD WELA women— finishing off the year with my global talent visa getting approved (!!!) and an application to the @catchlight.io global storytelling fellowship (@jesselisebell thankyou for all your help!) I am immensely grateful to be here, to do work I love for a living and to be meeting more like-minded planet loving people. I remain tenderhearted as we approach the end of the year, acutely aware of how much suffering so many are enduring right now across our world. There is much work to be done. And I’m here for it. But before we dive in again, I’m taking a much needed breather. I’ll be unplugging for the next few weeks and returning to work mid Jan. If you need me, please send carrier pigeons. I’m wishing you a grace filled end of the year. Please spread kindness and don’t lose hope, there is still so much beauty worth fighting for. 💗

When women come together, powerful movements happen!

Through the 2024 WELA National Leadership Program, alumni @emilytoner_ and Cass Bennett discovered a shared vision, to strengthen the wellbeing and resilience of those leading environmental and social change.

Now, they’ve launched Climate Courage For Teams: a wellbeing program designed specifically for environment-facing organisations navigating the pressures of a volatile and uncertain world.

The program brings evidence-based tools and tailored workshops to help teams:
- Build individual resilience through wellbeing science and mindfulness practices
- Strengthen team connection and psychological safety to foster trust and collaboration
- Develop relational leadership, cultivating empathy, courage, and collective care at every level

By supporting the people behind the work, this program aims to help organisations stay connected to their purpose and lead with steadiness and compassion even in the face of challenge.

Head to the link in bio to learn more about how Climate Courage For Teams can sustain your team whilst you sustain the planet.

In today’s newsletter, we’re excited to share the PU2025 event video with you all, captured and edited by the very skilled @calumnhockey.

We also unpack the recently released ‘Global Tipping Points Report 2025’, and learn about both positive and negative tipping points, and what the cryosphere is, and why we need to do all we can to protect it.

After that sombre read, we restore some of your hope with a podcast recommendation. Climate Courage will help you process difficult emotions about the climate crisis and build resilience and reignite your purpose.

You can read our weekly* newsletter by following the link in bio 👆🏼 where you can also subscribe and get it straight to your inbox every week 📫

*Okay, we did skip a week, but we’re now back to regular programming! 😆

In our September edition of Stories of Change, we highlight the courage and leadership of women and gender-diverse changemakers who are shaping a more just and sustainable future.

This edition features Rebecca Howarth, Dr Kim Loo, Emily Toner, and Jocelyn James — leaders who are driving marine protection, championing health and climate justice, tending to the wellbeing of changemakers, and safeguarding sacred waters for future generations.

Their stories remind us that transformative change is possible when courage, culture, and care come together, whether through grassroots advocacy, frontline community action, or the inner work that sustains us for the long journey ahead.

If we want to see more leaders like Rebecca, Kim, Emily and Jocelyn step forward, it’s up to us to fund the action that gets us there.

Join our Giving Circle to help resource grassroots, women and gender-diverse-led climate initiatives, and sign up to our mailing list to receive Stories of Change direct to your inbox. Link in bio to subscribe.
