Eighty years. That doesn’t seem possible. Not possible because you have many more lifetimes ahead of you and the heart of someone under thirty. They say you’re only as old as the light you give off, so to me, you’re younger than I am. Well, maybe ten years older. I think we only got through half the photos. But even those do not come close to capturing who you are and what you mean to us. You’re not just our dad. You’re a kid from the streets of Perth Amboy, New Jersey. A musician who started playing gigs at twelve, helped support his family, and paid his way through college. Music may not have become your career, but you passed that love down to all of us. You were in the Army Intelligence, sent to Vietnam, where you went through things most of us can’t begin to understand. You realized the DIA wasn’t your path and built an incredible career as a teacher, principal, superintendent, professor, author, educational technology leader, and now, at eighty, middle school substitute teacher. Retired? “You’re just getting started.” Over time, I’ve realized how privileged I am to have a father like you. You were at every game and the coach! You were a troop leader, trip planner, adventurer, and Chief Snoring Cloud of the father-daughter group formerly known as…(this content has been removed). My childhood was magic because of our camping adventures, Disney countdowns, and your spirit. There are so many core memories because of you. You served us breakfast in a chef’s hat and let us pretend we weren’t paying the fake bill. 😹😌 And, of course, “Are you a wise guy? What do we do to wise guys?” right before one of your famous whisker treatments. Also, “Have you seen my glasses?” And Dad, “we see you taping.” You have always supported us, believed in us, and made us laugh. You make Mack laugh so hard, and he is so thankful to have you as his music buddy. Pete’s and Jason’s children adore you too. CCPs forever. Jokes forever. 🪄 You are Dad, Papa Smurf, and Pop-Pop. We will forever love you to the moon and back and to infinity and beyond. God only knows what we’d do without you. 🥹 xo, Pete, Jay, Meggy,
