My aunt suggested calling this painting ‘Kitchen Keelin’! I decided against it. ( sorry Jillie). Here is ‘There’s an Artist in my Kitchen’. Not much better but I had no better ideas.
‘This is a portrait of my friend Keelin. Keelin is an actor and a writer. She sat for me in my kitchen as we spoke about food and boys, trying to remain creative,and existential dread until there was nothing left to say. The result is not solely a portrait of Keelin, an artist in her own right, but rather self-indulgently, it is a reflection of myself.’

A source of inspiration for writers and painters, lovers, dreamers, eaters, sleepers.
Anyway Laing and Joffe are both brilliant in their respective fields. Emma here - I was inspired by their first meeting - where Joffe painted a portrait of Laing while Laing wrote a kind of portrait of Joffe. I invited Keelin over to my kitchen to do the same. Though she didn’t write about me then, she did later. We drank cocktails out of cans and to my surprise, the resulting painting will be featured in this years ‘AIB Portrait Prize’ in the National Gallery of Ireland. Thank you Chantal, thank you Olivia

Welcome! Come on in! Keelin is an actor and a writer. She has been my subject and here I am as hers. She paints a romantic picture of me. We are working on collaborating — myself (Emma) as a visual artist and Keelin as a performer and a writer. Allow us to indulge ourselves as we attempt to navigate this scary world of art together. Thanks for being here ;)

Introducing Emma Coady!
@emmacoadyart
🫀

Emma’s artwork looks at romanticisation, isolation and the self. Emma is interested in art as a self-indulgent practice and tries to explore narcissism, self-hatred and mental illness through her paintings. The paintings are either based on real-life experiences that the artist has, or instances of fantasy that exist in the imagination. The work intends to reflect on the most intimate and challenging parts of life in a sincere, yet sometimes comical and playful way.
