Our ‘Collective Clay Cats’ are now on display at County Hall!

Created during the Under the Same Sun Summer Festival, the project invited members of the public to paint and decorate two ceramic cats.

The cats were made by @yasemingava.art and @emmalouisepayne, then fired in the County Hall kilns.

People of all ages contributed colours, patterns and details, creating two completely unique cats from one shared afternoon of making.

Come and see them at County Hall 🌸🐈‍⬛

Part of the London Design Festival is Sense of Place at @atelier_seventy_six , an immersive exhibition curated by ceramic artist @emmalouisepayne that transforms its domestic setting into a house of sensory encounters. Part of this are these gorgeous pieces by Emma, the collection is called Wasted. Cocktail glasses, carafes and dishes made from reclaimed clay, reprocessed ceramics and surplus studio glazes. A fabulous way to recycle. I’d like a margarita please!

London is handing us an Indian summer and we’re not asking questions. Tablecloth out, lunch in the garden, as many times as the sun allows.

WASTED
HENLEY DISTILLERY & BERRIES COFFEE SHOP
From Coffee shop waste Cocktail

Wasted began with a question about what happens when waste becomes the starting point rather than the end.

For Sense of Place, that idea extends beyond the ceramics.
Orange peel discarded by a local coffee shop has been collected and given a second life, becoming an ingredient in a limited-edition Negroni created with The Henley Distillery.

The peels are transformed into flavour, bringing something that would ordinarily be thrown away back into circulation.
The result is part of the exhibition’s Taste experience, where the ceramics are not simply displayed but activated through food, drink and hospitality.

Waste becomes material.
Material becomes flavour.
Flavour becomes part of the experience.

The glaze room at Blackmore Studio is one of the spaces where experimentation and material process come most fully into focus.
Stocked with a growing range of in-house glazes, the room allows members to test surfaces, colours, finishes, and firing results across different clay bodies and techniques. Shelving filled with test tiles and glaze samples slowly builds into an evolving archive of shared knowledge within the studio.
Alongside the practical side of glazing, there is also something incredibly exciting about this stage of ceramics. The uncertainty, transformation, and unpredictability that happens inside the kiln continues to feel magical no matter how long you work with clay.
The glaze room is designed to support both learning and curiosity, encouraging members to develop their own material language over time.

A LITTLE SNEAK PEEK

Today, the doors open.

The house is ready.
The ceramics are in place.
The textiles are hanging.
The lights are on.
The sound is running.
The incense is burning.

Sense of Place brings together five creative practices across the rooms of Atelier Seventy Six, creating an exhibition to be experienced rather than simply looked at.

@amechi.mandi is TOUCH
@emmalouisepayne is TASTE
@mentsen is SIGHT
@omamori.ldn is SCENT
@studioaboveandbelow is SOUND
