My November 2026 and February 2027 retreats are already sold out but I’ve got dates in March, May and October 2027. If you can see yourself on retreat with us, please get in touch and I’ll happily answer all your questions. And to see all the 2027 retreats right now just sign up to the early-bird list on my website at www.writeandwalk.com In the meantime I can’t wait to get back on retreat with @heleenkist_author @louisemangos @suzyaspleybooks @marjowhee @sofia_due_words @nicolagillauthor @thescoopbycatwalker @corinmb @thelucyweldon @tammyehuf , and Harriet Potter - and with @mjferhidalgo @mj_streetphoto by my side. A crime fiction filled extravaganza yesterday at Fatal Shore, part of @shorehamwordfest . Thanks so much to all of the organisers, volunteers and of course the authors who took part- I had a brilliant day! We were lucky enough to see the Queens of Crime, a Genre bending panel, Thrillers and Killers, some amazing debut novelists in Fresh Blood - and of course Rev Richard Coles had us in stitches with his stories! I’ve come away with a new pile of highly recommended reading and lots more on the wishlist. An ideal Saturday all round.

Had an absolute BLAST at London Calling last night! I’ve never played shuffleboard before, but apparently I’m a natural because I came second! 😆 So good to see so many author chums and chat about everyone’s ups and downs.

"I am not buying anymore books..." said no reader ever! I'm playing a bit of catch up due to illness and exhaustion so here's a #MondayMurderStack featuring my book haul from @bloodyscotland Some of these books were free so girl math tells me I actually made some savings...😉 Books featured: The Long Drop by Denise Mina (free): great book which I am going to re-read! The Cutting by @1michaeljmalone (actually belongs to Graham but I have the kindle version and will be reading it very soon. Evil in the Family by @michaelwoodbooks - incredible author. If he writes it, I will read it. Murder in the Cathedral by @jmdalglieshauthor (free!) The Quiet Kill by @robertbryndza Hardback! This was gifted in a goodie bag. YAY 🥳 The Specialist by Ben Giles. Crime scene cleaner - can't wait to read this. Is it bad that I flipped through the book to see if there were any pictures? 😲🫣 The Shark by @emmastylesauthor Devoured this book and will never stop recommending! The Drowning Place by @sarah_hilary999 This sounds so friggin good! Can't wait to start it! I have a write up planned too but had to share my book haul first!

Absolutes LOVED The Word is Murder in South Shields. I was on a brilliant panel with @cjcooke_author and @chrisbridgeswriter - hosted by @vpeanuts Aaaah Vic. What a legend. She does so, so much for us authors and I love her to bits. Thank you, Vic. The day was only soured by @rustic_reads_donna giving me an ARSENAL mug as a ‘present’. I got my own back, though. 😂😂⚪️🔵⚪️🔵 Wonderful, wonderful times. Happy days. All those cliches. It’s so friendly up here, so lovely. Vic - I want to do every single festival in the NE. Please? 😂

THE SHARK by @emmastylesauthor is one of my favorite reads of the year. a serial killer thriller with the devastation and grittiness of Gillian Flynn combined with unreliable narrators and secrets hidden behind every wave? Sign. Me. Up. this one is impeccably written and scary. I didn’t know who to trust or who to protect as I bonded with all of these characters. Styles effortlessly throws the reader into a dangerous situation where a brutal killer lurks behind every shadow and brilliantly executes one of the darkest and immersive reads I’ve yet to read. this is what the kids call a six star read. my casting choices would be: Milly Alcock as Rachel Valenti Maya Hawke as Carmen Chase Dylan O’Brien as Neil Fraser Lock Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Detective Jared Rosso Lupita Nyong’o as Zee Madelyn Cline as Alexis Glasser Alyvia Alyn Lind as Max Valenti Thomas Doherty as Leo Barros Jessica Capshaw as Mrs Glasser Patrick Wilson as Mr Glasser Emily Meade as Genevieve Craigie Sarah Catherine Hook as Hazel Liev Schreiber as Mr Valenti Garret Dillahunt as Mr Lock Diane Lane as Mrs Lock and Lola Tung as Hana Piper Lee

Huge thanks @bloodyscotland for a BRILLIANT festival! I was thrilled to be on Crime in the Spotlight, before Tana French & Denise Mina. I was very nervous but they were both lovely & put me totally at ease! And big thanks @morgancryauthor for also allaying my nerves & helping overcome a few issues with my rehearsal – I couldn’t have done my Spotlight reading without your fab support! An honour to have my name in huge letters at Stirling’s Albert Halls. I loved sitting next to Tana French at the book signings, & telling her how much she inspired me! And a treat to meet the lovely readers in the audience. I’m so grateful to the wonderful team @stirlingwaterstones_ for the beautiful display of Spotlight Authors – a very special moment seeing THE LOST DETECTIVE on there & I really appreciate you stocking my book! And a massive thank-you to my fab friend @emmastylesauthor who encouraged me to apply for Crime in the Spotlight & who looked after me throughout the festival & introduced me to lots of wonderful writers, readers, booksellers, bloggers, including crimebookgirl & @andreasalambritis7! I loved seeing @emmastylesauthor chatting about her brilliant THE SHARK on Chasing Dark Shadows – such a fantastic panel with @lucavestewriter @michaelwoodbooks @elmacel1 & I really enjoyed hearing about everyone’s books! Another fab highlight was Femmes Fatales with @liznugentwriter @andreamaraauthor & @harriet_tyce (I’m currently reading & absolutely loving WITCH TRIAL!). Don’t have photos, but I also really enjoyed Die Laughing with @davidgerardweir1 @carolinehulse1 & @rwrmcdonald! Another highlight was Across the Pond with @southsidegav @edelcoffey @tariqashkanani chaired by @susiesbookreviews! I also had a great time meeting Spotlight authors @rksetton @the_mancaruso_sisters @angelacleggauthor @jenlcrow @alyseliza – wonderful to hear your readings at the rehearsal! And lovely to meet Pitch Perfect shortlisted @zuzi.pope & I look forward to updates about MURDER AT THE GRAND HOTEL BOHEMIA! A final big thank you to Bloody Scotland for making it such a wonderful & memorable weekend! #bloodyscotlandfestival #crimewriting #madeinstirling #crimeg

So here I am, then and now. But I’d never have guessed where that very first tour guiding job would lead me. In what ways do YOUR first jobs shape who you are now? Write and Walk retreats bring together my two careers - guide and novelist - with my three big passions: writing, guiding and walking in wild places. Meditation is also absolutely key for me and there’s a place for that too on retreat for those who want to try it out. I’ve just finished the brochures for four retreats in 2027 - the first one has already sold out but there are places left on all others - including a few discounted places for those who reserve early. ***see pinned post for retreat outlines, and also my stories today. Full brochure available when you register your interest, and more details coming very soon on here :-) *** Register your interest NOW using the link in my bio and I’ll send you more information - and to stay in the loop, sign up to the Early-Bird list on my website (www.writeandwalk.com) - and feel free to send me a DM on here with any questions - always happy to help. Hope to see you on the trails sometime! #writingretreat #writingcommunity #writeandwalkspain
