Jersey City needs to close a structural budget gap. The current proposal is for a 15-20% property tax hike to raise $50-80 million a year.

Meanwhile a yearly parking permit is only $15 while garages cost $200-400 per month.

The solution: Jersey could raise parking permits to $100 a month which is still far below market rates and raise over $60 million of revenue without raising property taxes.

Which will it be Jersey City? Taxes homes / raise rents even more or ask motorists to pay 1/3 of market rate for car storage?

Many people talk the talk, but @emorgen walks the walk. During my time working with her, she was a great boss, a great colleague, a great mentor, and a great advocate, both for our community and me as an individual. More than all that, she’s a great friend.

Plus, as many reading this already know, she was a hell of a fighter. In talking with electeds, sponsors, and other advocates, I more than once used the line, “don’t make me go get Emmanuelle.” 😎

My life has become more fulfilling since meeting Emmanuelle. I better know who I am and what I have to offer the world around me. I can’t say that about many people.

While I know she still IS all those things;

that she will always be a Slack message, email, or phone call away,

and I fully expect to wake up some days to google doc edit suggestions from across the Atlantic😜;

I will miss seeing her in the trenches here in @hudcoinsta

Emmanuelle! I wish nothing but the best for you and family in Europe. Thanks for everything 🥲

We have bittersweet news to share: Emmanuelle Morgen – our founding President and Executive Director – is moving abroad, to be closer to family in Europe.

She is stepping down as Executive Director, but will remain involved and on the Board, and will help us as we begin a search for a new Executive Director to build upon the amazing progress the organization has made under her leadership.

In just a few years Hudson County Complete Streets has matured from a group of inspired advocates into an organization capable of winning state and local campaigns, managing hundreds of volunteers and staff, leading a North Jersey Transit Conference, and becoming a trusted partner to our municipalities. We could not have done it without Emmanuelle.

Please join us in wishing her the best on this next life adventure, and thanking her for sharing her energy, time, and talent with all of us.

Yesterday at City Hall started out with a commute in style! Thanks @bikejcgram for organizing and including me in Bike to Work Day! 🚲

Several meetings later, we closed out the day with the Palestinian flag raising hosted by former Councilman @yousefjsaleh honoring the Jersey City Palestinian-American community. 🇵🇸

Post-Transit Forum, @emorgen and I had a chance to simply hang out with our legislators (as one does, of course) as they opened their new NJ-32 office.

Was funny as @asmravibhalla advised @aswkatiebrennan …’as mayor, I’ve done a lot of these ribbon cuttings, so you’re gonna want to hold the pose for a couple seconds to allow photographers to get a shot.’ That’s what it’s all about, folks, veterans passing their wisdom down to rookies!

Rain or shine, we’ve got great ways to spend Saturday afternoon at Transit Forum!

If you’re not bothered by a little rain, bring an umbrella and join us for one of the four options as you see above! We suggest wearing comfortable shoes for the best experience.

If staying dry is more to your liking, @hudcostreets’ own @neighbor_ryan is giving a presentation of some of his work, “Data-driven Advocacy,” which gives a look into how data guides our efforts, and sometimes delivers results that surprise even those most connected to transit advocacy.

Thereafter, to close the afternoon before final remarks, we’re fortunate to have @njcuniversity Professor and filmmaker, Joel Katz, screen his film, “The #1 Bus Chronicles.” seen on @njpbs .

Still don’t have a ticket? It’s not too late! Visit link in bio or - https://hudcostreets.org/2026-transit-forum

Last Fall the Village Council reviewed some pedestrian safety upgrades to the downtown area. These were just initial renderings by the planning department, but this shows a good illustration of most of the designs presented - shorter crossings for pedestrians, narrowing the roadway to slow drivers down and significant additional sidewalk space and potential for more plantings/trees.

Go to time stamp 1:49:30 for the full presentation https://www.youtube.com/live/KUV7ZbWRhWw?si=wkNBiTSfqPtrKZ_i

It’s end of year and we’re identifying our priorities as we go into 2026. Between transit, turnpike, and street safety, we’ll have plenty to tackle that makes a difference in the lives of Hudson residents!

We really hope to do even more each year, but we need your support.

We’re thrilled to announce that the @theportauthority_ny_nj has responded to our campaign’s request for increased service.

We want to thank the PA, various elected officials, and the thousands that signed our petition and spoke up for PATH riders.

But we’re not done yet!

Check out our next post about our event with the PA on 11/20!

“Above all, remember this: You’re not alone in wanting a better world, one in which cars are relegated to their proper use. Cars are tools that can be useful at certain times and places. They are not gods. They are not the foundation of our society. They should serve us. We should not serve them.

You’re not alone in thinking that change is possible. Indeed, it is necessary. There can be life, a world, after cars—and for ourselves, our neighbors, our children, we must keep moving toward it, one step at a time.”

Look at the world of difference a bike lane makes for your neighbors cycling down River Road. (Full-length on our YouTube!)

Strangely enough - in the bike lane conversation- cyclists’ experience often gets put on the back burner.

Instead, the focus is on drivers, cars, traffic, delays, drivers again, and how infrastructure designed to save cyclists’ lives makes drivers FEEL.

But how do cyclists feel about it? We feel safer & calmer as we ride. We feel fairness that a portion of our taxes is going towards infrastructure WE use. We feel hopeful that more areas will become destinations for communities instead of being merely places your drive past.
