I just broke down last night when I heard white supremacists may have caught fire to the @highlandercenter. Even while writing this my eyes are overwhelmed with tears and my heart aches. Highlander symbolizes liberation and peace for me. I’ve learned so much while sitting on that grass, laughing in the blue pavilion, and listening in those mountains. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“Last week, Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner vetoed historic legislation that would have ensured people awaiting trial have access to the ballot. The legislation would have also informed incarcerated people of their voting rights once released from awaiting trial while in jail. We are disappointed with Governor Rauner’s decision to block a signature piece of legislation that would have been a monumental win for Black and Brown people across Illinois. We commend Chicago Votes and local allies for working on this groundbreaking legislation. Now it is up to the Illinois General Assembly to affirm the core message of House Bill 4469 - protect the right to vote for the 20,000 people detained pre-trial.” - @colorofchange
