ENDOMETRIOSIS: MORE THAN PAIN.

At Spartan Photography Kenya, we believe photography can be more than beautiful images.
It can be a way to start difficult conversations, challenge stigma and make invisible experiences visible.
Through this project, we are using artivism — art and activism — to tell a visual story about endometriosis, a condition that affects about 1 in 10 women of reproductive age worldwide. For many, the journey involves severe pain, heavy bleeding, fatigue, fertility challenges and years of waiting for answers.

We created this project to encourage awareness, understanding and action. We believe stories around women's health should not only be told when they become headlines; they should be seen, discussed and understood. At Spartan Photography Kenya, we want to work with organisations, advocates, health institutions and movements using powerful visual storytelling to turn important social and health issues into stories that people can see, feel and remember.

Endometriosis is real. The pain is real. The stories deserve to be seen.

Two important messages for people with endometriosis, and for the healthcare professionals who care for them:

1. Movement can be medicine.
But movement does not have to mean intense exercise. It can be walking, stretching, gentle strength work, yoga, swimming, or whatever feels achievable for your body that day.

Exercise should be adapted to you, your symptoms and your capacity. Pain is not a failure, and “pushing through” is not the goal.

2. You deserve self-compassion.
Some days, movement may help. Some days, rest may be what your body needs. Both can be part of looking after yourself.

There is no perfect way to exercise with endometriosis. Start where you are. Do what you can. Adjust when you need to.

Consider checking out @endometriosis360 for a holistic approach helping people regain movement and self-compassion.
