The ghouls come out to play once again at LEGENDS OF HORROR - Casa Loma in Toronto!💀

Now in its 10th year of heart racing fun! This is hands-down one of Toronto’s BEST Halloween traditions and definitely one of mine!

Expect…the unexpected.

💀2 kilometre journey through the famous castle’s lower gardens, underground tunnels and haunted Stables.

💀encounter theatrical horror characters (don’t worry they won’t touch you, it’s bad luck for them anyway)

👻 3D projections, incredible animatronics, dramatic lighting

🫣 unexpected scares along the way

Additional Tips:

🍂 Wear proper shoes and dress appropriately —this is an indoor and outdoor experience!

🍴You can catch your breath mid point where there’s food, drinks, and washrooms.

🥰 Family friendly hours with no actors and daylight.

🏰 Humans with mobility issues note this is not accessible - Casa Loma is on historic grounds with steps inside and out.

Have fun! You’ll sleep again someday. 👻

Thanks for having us!! ❤️‍🔥

Are you sick of seeing this blue table yet? 😅
@engclau chooses his gelato/granita combo by colour contrast and today he chose yellow watermelon sorbetto with chocolate granita con coconut panna (sotto e sopra: in the middle and on top!). 💛🤍🤎

Completely dairy free! Vegan friendly.

InWake was my first group show and Rafi at Samara Contemporary placed Karen Miranda Abel and myself in the lower barn. Throughout the two-day event Karen and I had lots of time to soak up each other’s work and get to know each other.

It was wonderful to watch her piece entitled “Sky Garden” reflect the light coming in through the barn door opening. While there I noticed that the barn floor itself, that her pools rested upon, had markings which recorded the time of day that it was created. By deduction I suspect that when the concrete slabs of the barn floor were poured, the workers had done so in batches. With each five-foot width, they scratched the time of the pour in the concrete surface. In this way the floor now reveals the process of its construction, way back when the length of time to pour a floor was a long drawn out process.

Another observation I made was that the glass in front of my two images became reflecting mirrors when seen from Karen’s pools. My imagery disappeared as I moved closer to her work and I instead focused on the reflections in her pools.

Yes, the exhibition was only up for two days, but I suspect that our artistic dialogue may continue well into the future.

It wasn’t until the second day of inWake that we discovered the full extent of the paths @bela_farm.

At the highest elevation on the property are two fields of mustard. They were hidden from view until we crested the top of the hillside. The owners planted this cover crop in early spring since its deep roots quickly scavenge residual nitrogen from the lower soil layers. Later in the season it will be chopped down and plowed into the soil before it goes to seed. And, as it decomposes, it will release this nitrogen back to the next crop.

As I scanned the field I noticed clumps of milkweed, and a sprinkling of other native flowering plants throughout the sea of yellow. It reminded me of the fields I saw as a child near Rice Lake. When I asked, “Why were there so many random species in the field?”The owners told me that, unlike most industrial farming, they chose not to use a herbicide, such as Roundup, to sterilize the soil before planting. It was the reason monarch butterflies, bees and numerous other insects were busy doing their thing. And, as I moved closer to the yellow flowers, there was a definite hum from the busy bees that were taking advantage of the bumper crop of blooms.

I hadn’t been that close to a field in years and the having paths around each crop made the ability to explore the expanse of yellow even more special.

Throughout our walk I kept thinking of nolevelon and how the paths Kyle and I are creating throughout the forest will provide many similar ha-ha moments, as the unique characteristics of the landscape are revealed.

Day-two of inWake was another day to remember. Bees, butterflies, and blooms, as well as artworks spread throughout the landscape.

Day one of inWake at Bela Farm. It began in our neighbourhood with a coffee and pastry @olivercoffeebar which had a beautiful Father’s Day weekend pop-up. Then Eng, Jas, Kyle and I headed north west into the countryside. On our drive my passengers had to hear my ranting about the loss of so much farmland to relentless suburbia as we drove at 100km for what seemed like an hour until we finally hit the first of the rolling hills of Caledon. Once @bela_farm we were transported into a green dreamscape of wonder. Our day started with an emotional talk by Isaiah Cada and Nichole Leveck interspersed with singing and dancing, where I learned so many new things about indigenous culture. Midday, we had a picnic in the shade of a beautiful old tree and later we walked through the surround fields on mowed paths. This walk was made even more special with the inWake artworks. Throughout the day I explained my two drawings to people as they were touring the show, which I realized can stand alone without explanation. This was a huge revelation. One of my favorite moments in a day of many, was being photo-bombed by a random kid in a yellow hat, as we attempted to capture a group photo. Today it’s summer solstice and the early morning sun woke me up to write this long post…..but I’m looking forward to spending the longest day of the year at day-two of inWake at Bela Farm.
