Peace comrades ✊🏾 Detroit showed up for the international day of solidarity with Congo October 23rd at Detroits Apple Store on Woodward. We made it clear that Congo will not be forgotten and our international solidarity cannot be silenced. Despite a heavy police presence, we successfully amplified the genocide and ongoing atrocities in Congo, challenged the silence surrounding imperialist exploitation and connected the struggles of our communities across borders. We also want to shout out Team Congo, Congo and Friends and Apples Against Apartheid for their work, resources and continued efforts to raise awareness and organize against imperialism and colonial violence. We encourage everyone to connect with these groups, continue educating themselves and find ways to turn solidarity into action beyond the rally. They fear our solidarity because an organized people are harder to divide, silence and control. This rally was more than a demonstration, it was another step toward building the relationships, political consciousness and collective action necessary for liberation. We keep building, organizing and turning solidarity into action. ✊🏾🇨🇩🇵🇸🇨🇺 Free Congo. TAKE ACTION FOR CONGO - Team Congo C.A.N. FROM DETROIT TO CONGO RALLY Apple on downtown Detroit 1430 Woodward Ave at Noon on Friday, October 23rd Congo’s fight for self determination is connected to our fight here in Detroit. From the minerals powering Big Tech to the exploitation of our communities, corporate wealth is built on stolen resources, exploited labor and colonial violence. We refuse to accept a world where profit comes before people. We’re taking action, challenging the corporations that benefit from this violence and building the power to shut down business as usual. One rally won’t end imperialism. We need lasting relationships, political education, survival programs and community-controlled resources to sustain our struggle beyond the streets. The goal is more than protest. It’s building the power to break from the systems exploiting us. 🇨🇩 TAKE ACTION FOR CONGO - Team Congo C.A.N. SAY NO TO BLOOD TECH: OCTOBER 23! This is just a sampling of the planned events all around the world to protest Big Tech’s complicity in genocide. It’s time to tell Apple and the rest of this industry that we will not stay silent as they contribute to the genocide of multiple communities, while claiming to care about making the world a better place. If you don’t see your event listed, DM @applesagainstapartheid and/or send us a collab request for your flyer. Be sure to use the hashtag #saynotobloodtech this Friday when sharing your action online! @applesagainstapartheid

🚨PUBLIC COMMENTS NEEDED! Join us at the October 20th MEDC Executive Committee meeting in Lansing (or attend online) to keep up the pressure on the MEDC to end public funding to the Michigan Israel Business Accelerator (MIBA). As MIBA’s current grant period ends in December, the nonprofit will likely apply for new funding from the MEDC. We can’t let that happen. Michiganders are outraged at the recent news that Israeli weapons manufacturer, Capture Systems, received public funding to set up shop in our state. How could this have happened? The answer is MIBA. MIBA played a key role in helping Capture Systems, Rafael, and other Israeli companies establish themselves in our state. We do not want Michigan’s economy to be one based in genocide, apartheid and war. Take action! Give public comment opposing public funding to MIBA by demanding the MEDC Executive Committee terminate MIBA’s current $650k grant and refuse to award the nonprofit any future grants. ⏰Tuesday, 10/20 @ 10am 📍Michigan Economic Development Corporation, 300 N Washington Square, Lansing 💻Can’t travel? Attend virtually. Visit michigandivest.org/miba for virtual registration and talking points to use in your public comments! #mimoneyoutofmiba

VICTORY! The MI State legislature rejected a funding request for the Michigan Israel Business Accelerator. Next stop: the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. The Michigan Israel Business Accelerator (MIBA) is a nonprofit that fosters business between Israel and Michigan, largely in the weapons industry. Since 2018, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) has granted MIBA $6 million in public funds. Nearly half of the funds have been granted since the Israeli military began its genocide in Palestine in 2023. In March, a group of organizations including Michigan Divest, Jewish Voice for Peace Detroit, U.S. Palestinian Community Network Detroit, and Engineers Against Apartheid launched the MI Money Out of MIBA campaign to divest public funds from MIBA. In July, the state legislature rejected a request from MIBA for $1 million after hundreds of Michiganders sent messages to their legislators to oppose it. The scrutiny and pressure on the MEDC and its ties to MIBA are mounting. In mid-August, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said that the MEDC “shouldn’t be receiving any state funds at all” due to “very little oversight” and concerns around MEDC’s corrupt use of grants and grantmaking to other nonprofits. The same month, MEDC was forced to respond to public comments calling out the blatant conflict of interest posed by two prominent MEDC staff members serving on MIBA’s Board of Directors. One staff member resigned from MIBA’s board as MEDC adopted a new conflict of interest policy. However, MEDC CEO Quentin Messer still serves on MIBA’s Board of Directors. On 10/20, the MEDC quarterly executive committee gathers. Join us in demanding accountability: Michiganders say no more money for apartheid and genocide. Tell the MEDC to end public funding to MIBA! Show up to the 10/20 MEDC Executive Committee Meeting online or in-person and give public comment. Link in @jvpdetroit’s bio to learn more.

For The Living, for The Martyrs, for The Land. On October 10, we took the streets to mark three years since Israel's genocide on Gaza began. Our demand is clear: a full two-way arms embargo and sanctions on Israel. The masses of the world stand with Gaza, and we are not going anywhere. Our people in Gaza have endured over 1,000 days of bombing, starvation, and occupation. We owe them our presence. As imperialist powers attempt to steer the political future of Gaza, we must confront and oppose their efforts to liquidate the Palestinian struggle. We must hold the governments of the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Arab states fully accountable for continuing to enable and fund the genocide. This is a day to reenergize our movement and renew our undying commitment to Palestine and its people. The genocide must end. Until Gaza's soil and sky are no longer occupied, until the blockade is lifted, and until every criminal with our people's blood on their hands is brought to justice, we will not rest.
