On view now! @SaveArtSpace: Looking In Selected Artist & Location @enio.ag Steinway St & 23rd Rd, Queens, NY Artist Statement: My practice is rooted in play as a way of accessing subconscious impulses and drawing the viewer into a game whose rules are not immediately clear. I make automatic drawings daily, letting intuition lead. While my work is figurative, it resists accurate representation. I construct a deliberately childlike visual language, pairing it with carefully researched color palettes drawn from historical images and visual traditions. I use this seemingly naïve language to approach darker aspects of the human experience: desire, pain, violence, oppression, and fear. I am interested in poking at the viewer in subtle, almost incidental ways, letting unease accumulate until it becomes difficult to ignore. My practice develops through experimentation as I move between drawing, painting, and small-scale sculpture, using conventional, self-made, and found materials. I create in series, and each project becomes an obsession: I find myself reading for hours, spending entire days inside museums, or flipping through endless images. I embed biographical symbols into the work, allowing personal references to accumulate meanings beyond their original context. What first appears as a field of strawberries gradually reveals itself as a scene of violence. 🖌️ @pensofino @nucleodejuego @enio.ag

On view in Midsummer through August 14, 2026 Enio Arroyo Gomez Banana Warhol I, 2016 Mixed media on cotton paper 14 x 11 in. / 35.56 x 27.94 cm Banana Warhol I, produced in 2016, is part of the BROTES (“Sprouts”) series. The series emerged from Enio’s fascination with the primitive line, drawing inspiration from the Chamacocos Indigenous people of Paraguay and from the research of psychologist Rhoda Kellogg, whose studies explored the universal nature of children’s scribbles. While the BROTES series initially appears playful and naive, it subtly engages with much more complex themes. In Banana Warhol I, the banana may first be read as a familiar, lighthearted fruit associated with childhood. Yet it also evokes Andy Warhol’s iconic Pop imagery, inviting associations with consumer culture, mass production, and the commercialization of everyday objects—hallmarks of Western capitalism. Seen through a Latin American lens, however, the banana also recalls the history of colonial exploitation, economic dependency, and political corruption associated with the so-called ‘banana republics.’  In 2016, BROTES was shown in a month-long solo exhibition at the Costa Rica National Gallery, which subsequently acquired 15 works for its permanent collection. Enio Arroyo Gomez (b. 1982, Costa Rica), currently based in Colombia, uses play to access subconscious impulses and test how images reshape reality. Through drawing as a daily ritual, he constructs a deliberately naïve visual language that resists conventional representation while masking deeper tensions. Working across media, he explores desire, violence, and fear through distorted figures and allegory, where seemingly innocent scenes reveal underlying psychological and moral conflict.

Installation views from Midsummer at @mcbride_dillman 🧡 The show is currently on view until August 14! Taking its title from the spirit of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Midsummer brings together artists whose work moves between reality and imagination, intimacy and myth, and instability and transformation. The exhibition is shaped by the strange, fertile energy of the season itself: a brief period when the world feels suspended between what is and what might be.

An unforgettable evening at 448 West 23rd Street. What began as a gathering to celebrate architecture, history, and design became something far greater — a room filled with remarkable people, meaningful conversations, and an energy that reminded us why salons like this still matter. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the evening so special. It was truly a pleasure to welcome such an extraordinary group into one of New York’s rarest townhouses. Special thanks to our incredible partners and collaborators whose support, creativity, and generosity helped bring the evening to life. @utopiacollab.inc_  @louis.sarowsky @fitzgeraldartstudios @enio.ag @pensofino @sensible_bakery @josephinecollection @ivyhermit A night to remember. Three generations of knowledge in one piece of artwork. The canvas used for this incredible series belonged to Enio’s grandfather and was primarily used in the fields to peel beans and legumes. The charcoal is entirely homemade by Enio and his father from the same land he grew up on. The generational weight this piece carries is palpable, and perhaps one day you'll get to see it in person.
