Happy #Halloweekend!

I know talking about mental health can be scary 👻, but with practice it does get easier.

I don't know if it's just me but my energy has been DRAINED over the last week. The sun's barely been out and I've been experiencing SAD - Seasonal Affective Disorder. It affects our body's internal clock, as well as its production of serotonin and melatonin. In other words, we feel more tired and lethargic and may even struggle to get up in the morning. 📉

This is a follow up on my SAD post from last year (not many posts away tbh).

Here's an extensive list of activities that help ease SAD:

✨ Get your dose of Vitamin D: Take advantage of the odd sunny day we get to get your natural dose, or take a supplement to make up for it. There are also Vitamin D rich foods, which include fatty fish (tuna, mackerel, salmon), egg yolk, and red meat.
✨ Maintain self-care routine: some examples include making your bed in the morning, drinking more water, trying to maintain a regular sleep schedule, having a healthy meal.
✨ Do more of what sparks joy; when & where possible, limit anything that stresses you out or dims your light. Prioritize yourself.
✨ Stay connected and reach out to your loved ones. You are not alone, no matter what your thoughts tell you or try to convince you of. Please just be mindful of where they are and if they are in a good spot, as well. ❤
✨ Movement heals! Whether it's by getting your steps in, lifting weights, dancing.. or whatever rocks your boat. Just move! It does wonders for our mental health and is highly underrated in terms of boosting our moods naturally.
✨ Plan something to look forward to! Even if it's something small like what to have for dinner tonight, making brunch plans with a friend, or checking out a new cafe. (Is it obvious yet how happy food makes me? 🤭)
✨ Practice mindfulness: take deep breaths, yoga, meditation, daily journaling
✨✨✨ If none of these make a difference, please don't be afraid of reaching out for professional counseling/therapy. You don't have to go through this alone. 💙💙💙

Happy Wednesday Friends! Have you gotten your Covid-19 vaccine yet? Whether it is your first or second shot, this would be a great opportunity for you to come out and get vaccinated and protect yourself, family and the community.

Vaccination Date:
SATURDAY OCTOBER 16th from 9:30am-4:30pm.

The Immigrant Youth Centre will be hosting a Pop-Up Clinic for the second time. So please share this information to friends, family, clients and co-workers to come out and get vaccinated if you or others haven’t done so!

Everyone is welcome for a first and second dose, no appointments needed. Free gift bags will be distributed after vaccination.

We have such wonderful community partners and local businesses who are willing to support in helping us build a stronger community. We are so grateful for their amazing work to encourage youth in our community to get vaccinated.

With our community partners and local businesses support we were able to create an amazing care package that includes cake discounts, candle discounts, restaurant coupons, sanitizers, masks and free t-shirts. Thank you all for your generosity!

Hello and happy Friday Jr.! 👋

It's been many months since I've introduced myself on here and there are many new faces (hello and thanks for following!) so I thought I'd share a couple facts about myself. I'm gonna sneak in a lie, can any of you guess which one it is? (hint: the devil is in the details!) 🤪

1. I am cautious by nature but the biggest daredevil! You can count on me to try everything at least once, whether it's trying alligator meat on a cruise ship dinner 🐊 or going skydiving in Hawaii. 🪂

2. I was born in the Philippines 🇵🇭, came to Canada 🇨🇦 when I was seven, raised in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) and have been back to the homeland once!

3. I am the biggest nerd! I always loved school and still love learning all the hows and whys of everything. 🤓
